It's Instagram vibes for text. Come on down. threads.net/@lessteza

Every friend unlocks a facet of you, within you. Without them, you're not your full you. Same for locations and vacations, same for poetry, photographs, stories and art, and same for pizza toppings.

In a survey of NeurIPS-published AI researchers, over *half* of those from China came to the US for grad school In other words, China is just *handing us* their AI talent If accel’s and decel’s can agree on anything, it’s that China developing AGI would be VERY bad. Stealing…

one of the easiest policy wins i can imagine for the US is to reform high-skill immigration. the fact that many of the most talented people in the world want to be here is a hard-won gift; embracing them is the key to keeping it that way. hard to get this back if we lose it.

I think this is exactly and 100% right. I just would pluralize ‘capacity:’ ‘true, novel kinds of cognitive capacities.’ 🎈

The whole "conscious AI" discussion is a distraction. Then real question is: can we create lifeless but true cognitive capacity? I think yes.

Mike Pence is an asshole with honor. I miss assholes with honor.

I'm just thinking that bears would make such great pets if they were smaller and did not have the tendency to eat humans

It is fine and possible to worry about different things at different time-scales. But there is also the issue of finite resource allocation. This letter bandwagons the trend of drawing attention to hypotheticals over realities.

I hereby coin the "deep alignment" problem: how to align the "AI safety" crowd with the real risks of AI instead of the imaginary Hollywood ones... 🙃

Engaging in dialog is inherently anthropomorphic. Instead of asking for LLM chatbots to avoid anthropomorphic design, ask for intentional design around having or not having humanlike cues. This design approach is like a regulation of a widespread (cognitive) drug.

The animal handlers at the Oregon Zoo took Elephant around to meet some other animals. The sea lions were her favorite.

i only date language models with six-figure context window

The future isn't drone delivery. It's tiny narrow delivery tunnels from locations in central populated areas to every building. No packages, no carbon. Amazon pipes. Fight me.

Due to the nature of human cognition and human experience, automation is not always inherently valuable. We need AI~Cognition harmony -- not AI replacing all human involvement.

I can propose an infinite number of improbable doomsday scenarios. They might make for fun Sci-Fi. But they are not worth anyone's time to refute one by one. They would have to be realistic to be worth refuting.

My car's window was broken inside the building garage. Talking to property manager about it: Him: - "we're thinking of using cameras with AI 🤩 to be more secure" Me: - "could this AI also fix the broken garage door that is left open and likely directly led to this vandalism?"

This is an OCD torture. Why is USB written in both directions? Why is the other text only in one direction? Why is USB written under the wholes? Do they periodically flip this using screws? Why does "Empower" show a laptop where clearly this cannot charge it? WHAT IS HAPPENING?
