HK’s press freedom has declined for yet another year, according to HKJA's latest Press Freedom Index. Ratings by journalists dropped almost 6 points, showing that the city’s press freedom hit a new low in 2021, following the Index’s steepest decline since it was created in 2013.
“Today, at this very moment, some journalists are holding a reception celebrating the National Day, while the chairperson of HKJA had to appear in court. I guess that reflects the contrast we’ve seen in the Hong Kong news industry now,” Ronson Chan said after being granted bail.
