Our paper exploring trauma responses in adoptive parents has been published today! This paper is particularly important to me, and is part of a project that began in 2018 alongside Dr Matt Woolgar, Professor Pasco Fearon and three adoptive parents experts by experience⭐

Children have a right to an education. We are not their bosses. They are not paid to be at school. If you are not child-centred and do not think supporting children is the first priority of a school, I would question why you have decided on a career in education.

A joyful and powerful thing for a Friday. A piece of work from young people in care, through a video about how derogative the term "LAC" can feel. This was the launch event with the young people. It was truly amazing. @KathLavery @TobyLewis_NHS @Christi29448451 @SAPHNAsharonOBE

💜 We're delighted to see @JoshMacAlister mention the urgent reforms needed to the care system in his maiden speech in Parliament. 💭 "I believe every child has the right to be loved and we've got the ability to build a care system that can provide it for them."

If you know any care-experienced people aged 25 and under who would be interested in a FULL undergraduate scholarship, FYI this brilliant initiative from @jlpartnership in partnership with the @OpenUniversity Applications close 24 July. open.ac.uk/courses/fees-a…

If you are on duty at the school gate you have the opportunity to be a safety anchor for children who have lived toxic stress. This transition is significant. Be mindfully present and focussed. Connect with each and every child as they go through. Neuroception matters. #Aces

If you work in community forensic services you need this book. If you work in prison or secure services you absolutely need this book. Compassionate, trauma-informed, beautifully written. Well done @shinglerjo & colleagues.

When I collected my A level results, I’d just left foster care & was adjusting to living alone in a council flat. No family to celebrate with. Deep isolation. No “well done” lunch. Shout out to all the care experienced ppl collecting results today. Be proud. What a triumph. ❤️👊🏽

The need for CAMHS is increasing, and yet the resources, funding, and staffing to be able to meet this need does not match this. Staff are stretched beyond their capacity and burning out day by day. Nobody wins. Fund health services better!

The number of young people undergoing treatment or waiting to start care in CAMHS reached 466,250 in May. The highest number on record. These young people could fill Wembley Stadium, five times over. @RishiSunak, this is an emergency.

(Last) thought for the day: you cannot fight inequalities by doing the NHS thing better. Until we are prepared to shift the spend (yes into housing, schools and work) we will carry on talking to ourselves about “gaps” or “pressure” #publichealthstudent #bethechange #brave

The review of children’s social care, as important as it was, tells us nothing we don’t know. Services are under funded and resourced to provide the care and support children and families need and deserve. Change needs to be on a political level. communitycare.co.uk/2023/04/18/you…
