Very sad news:

The Los Angeles Dodgers mourn the passing of legendary pitcher Fernando Valenzuela.

If that's the playoff intensity the Dodgers were looking for today, then the playoffs won't be lasting very long for one team in particular.

Some fans wonder why I didn't get overly excited about the wins Friday and Saturday. Well if they lose today and tomorrow, they are right back in the same boat they were in Thursday as far as the division lead goes.

I was all excited for the new season of trade deadline deals before seeing it was just a rerun of last season. latimes.com/sports/dodgers…

Mookie Betts has a broken hand. Yoshinobu Yamamoto has a strained rotator cuff. Other than that, everything is great.

This is a great thing.

A moment Albert and Shohei will never forget. 🥹 In honor of his bobblehead night, Shohei surprised Albert, a pediatric patient of @UCLAMCH, with a first pitch and suite tickets to tonight's game.

Congratulations Bill! I hope one day I get to meet you.

Mookie Betts is on pace for 101 homers and 223 RBIs. I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe those would both be records.

Hey everyone, I have been ill, so the next Dodgers Dugout has been delayed till probably Monday. My apologies.

Breaking down the Shohei Ohtani situation, with a timeline and links to all our stories. All things considered, I'd rather write about on-field activities. latimes.com/sports/dodgers…

If the people running the Golden Globes were on top of their game, they'd add Jo Koy to the In Memoriam section.

Merry Christmas to all you Dodgers Dugout readers out there. And everyone else too.

I will now have a new recurring nightmare: "Betts, Freeman, Ohtani go three for 42 and Yamamoto is shelled as 130-win Dodgers are swept in first round of postseason."

Dodgers have spent almost $1.2 billion on three pitchers this offseason. I'm going to have to double the price of the newsletter to keep up. latimes.com/sports/dodgers…

I get asked, a lot, about whether Trevor Bauer will pitch in the majors again. Colleague @BillShaikin breaks it down for you here. latimes.com/sports/dodgers… Key quote from a former baseball team president: “His chances are relatively small."
