Happy Halloween from the Vrooman lab & friends!

Lots of cool stuff happened in the lab: we got an NOA on an R01, 3 of us gave talks at a regional conference, we had a very successful outcome to our pilot grant, but what we’re really excited about in Sept: what we’re going to be for Halloween 👻🎃🤣

Amazing time @SSRepro annual meeting. Fun times in Dublin with friends and scientific family.

Portland in June. I swear it doesn’t actually rain that much though 🤣

Another amazing year in Woods Hole and another amazing class of @FIRbees 😀

10 years ago! As problematic and inequitable as academia can be, I’ve had amazing life experiences and friends that I would not have otherwise encountered. Feeling fortunate and proud of my growth—and really hopeful about mentoring the next generation of scientists.

So happy to have my postdoc advisor @Marisa_S_B for one of our two amazing keynotes for OHSU’s Epigenetic Symposium. Amazing job @Carbone_Lab and organizers!

Great candid of me getting a *very* exciting lab result! More to come! 🤣

Very proud to share my new published paper at the Bartolomei lab. Thanks to @CassidyHemph12 @la_vrooman @Marisa_S_B, and others. Trophectoderm biopsy of blastocysts following IVF and embryo culture increases epigenetic dysregulation in a mouse model academic.oup.com/humrep/article…

For this giving Tuesday, please consider donating to The Maya’s Wings Foundation. They funded one of my grants to investigate a protein important for fetal development. They also provide a support network for anyone navigating infertility or IVF. themayaswingsfoundation.org/donate

Barbies have invaded the Vrooman lab today 💖💅🏻🎀 Happy halloween!

My lab’s first NHP embryo transfer was yesterday and we’re so excited. She got 2 amazing looking hatched blasts. I’m optimistic, but maybe we’ll get twins?! 🙉 🙊

This Colorado TCU game. Lol I’m trying to write my grant! 👀

Last day hosting summer students. Mentoring fills my heart up so much. Even on days I am exhausted, their enthusiasm and motivation to do a good job is inspiring ❤️

Over 9,000 scientists told us about how they use the social-media platform now known as X. More than half of respondents have reduced their time on the platform, and 7% have stopped using it altogether go.nature.com/3sftDEr

1/ Solutions to the climate crisis are already here. But they're stuck in academic labs. Often, after the basic science is done, there’s just a little more work needed to show the science has commercial potential. But no one funds this! Introducing Manifest Climate!

As a co-first author in the second position on my first postdoc paper, I never suffered a disadvantage. Trust that faculty know what co-first author is bc they do! Put an * next to your name and below the paper information *co-first author

Re: discussion of switching co-first authors on CVs for faculty positions. Another thing that I see commonly are postdocs listing themselves as having grants when they are not the PI of the grant. Don’t do this-it’s easy to look up and check…

My lab really surprised me for my birthday 🎂!
