Important message - salvage of renal function after renal artery occlusion following FB-EVAR is often possible, even despite prolonged ischemia. Be aggressive with revascularization - it may save a patient from permanent dialysis. Great presentation by Jeremy Zack at…

Fun and thoughtful discussion today regarding timing and indications to treat aortic dissections. Great conference! (Also, I swear I kept my eyes open most of the time)

The Department of Surgery lost a cherished member of the team this week after a long illness. Katie Iles joined us as a resident in 2018. We grieve her loss and she will be deeply missed, but we will remember her and the contributions she made to our department.

Beautifully said. We were so lucky to have her ❤️

Lost a close friend and colleague this week. Katie was a true light in and out of the hospital. She kept showing up in a big way to life and to residency despite chemo, radiation, & multiple setbacks. She loved being a surgeon and was an integral part of the @UNCSurgery family

An 11-year-old who survived the school shooting in Texas went into survival mode and put someone's blood on herself to pretend she was dead. The classmate next to her died and then saved her life. This is the kind of trauma you hear from an active war zone, not a 4th grade class.
