NYC gets 70 million tourists per year, most of whom are only exposed to wealthy white Manhattan, which is made synonymous with the whole city, erasing everyone else. My project (the only Muslim-owned domestic walking tour company in the entire country) aims to change that.

I am a finalist for the David Prize, a highly-selective $200,000 award given to just 5 New Yorkers advancing new visions for the City. 3,000 applied. I made it to the final 15 for my walking tour venture. What an honor to be here in the service of my Home! thedavidprize.org/finalists/asad…

I pay the non-hijabi tax (I wait a few hours after the restock to shop the vela website)

Principles of democracy & collective action in a tech-native generation where influencers/celebs are “elected” through followers, likes, views — • Users comment for months on posts asking them to recognize genocide • Celebrities silent • Users block (“deplatform”) them

Me waking up to hearing Kim K lost over 3 million followers in the last 24 hours, and that there’s livestream watch parties showing these big celebrities lose followers as we speak. Boy.. this morning’s coffee tastes especially good ☺️☕️✨ #blockout2024

Today I'm announcing something I've been working on for the last 2 years: Alif. When I started building my first company 5 years ago, I had no help. There was no Founders, Inc. yet. Buildspace didn’t exist either. I wouldn’t have gotten accepted into any accelerator if I…

NEED someone to explain why there are so many white travel influencers in Pakistan rn? Is this a government initiative? it can’t be such an organic coincidence right?!

The Pakistani fashion industry is so fascinating because “designer brands” began as late as the 1980s/90s. Most in my mom’s generation took material to craftsmen and ideated. It created a huge sought-after supply of skilled artisans. (Me & mom both wearing her wedding suit.)

I’m running a survey on experiences people have had with Pakistani designers. It’s had an overwhelming response (100+ in 24 hours!) and such a strong outpouring of support from respondents. Very excited to share what this becomes. Survey link: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

In over a week, I’ve explored the streets of Gotham with Fordham, Princeton, NYU, CUNY, and even students from Germany! Before I open for the public and this blows up, my DMs are open for educators seeking to bring their class to life. You will never see NYC the same way again.

This is William Seward, an anti-slavery politician from NY who served under Lincoln. He wrote to officials in Ottoman Tunisia after they abolished slavery to seek advice on how the US can follow. We discuss him on my “Mecca to Manhattan” walk. The streets of NYC tell us stories!
