Old Lady in the garden! This is a new moth to me (and the garden), I'm pretty sure this is an Old Lady moth which has the great scientific name of Mormo maura. 70mm wingspan so quite large. Sadly this one had a damaged wing. Still cool!

Last Friday, I released the latest iteration of Historical Photographs of China (@vischina) hpcbristol.net - the interface is very similar, but I completely rewrote the application. @bickers writes about the change here: visualisingchina.net/blog/2022/12/1…

Extremely sad news for the entomology community. Our thoughts are with Simon's family and friends.
Hello all. I am so very sad to report the death of Professor Simon Leather, @EntoProf Simon died peacefully last night. Simon’s wife, Gillian, asked me to announce on Twitter as this was such a big part of his life. I will post the funeral details once I know. @HarperAdamsUni
The #FavouriteMoth of our webmaster (@kierenpitts) is the Angle Shades (Phlogophora meticulosa) as it has fantastic camouflage. When resting, the wings curl up along their length and look like a dry leaf. #MothWeed #amentsoc 📷by Kieren Pitts
We might have mentioned we did some work that was included in the @royalsociety Summer Science Exhibition. @kierenpitts has written a behind the scenes blog post about it researchit.blogs.bristol.ac.uk/2021/07/16/dev…
