We all benefit from well funded public schools, whether or not we directly make use of them. Can’t say the same about private schools funded via vouchers or ESAs. “School choice” is code for defunding public education. #ksed #ksleg

A public school is a school open to all young people in the community, funded by the community (and the people of the state), and governed by elected members of the community. A private school is school with different characteristics. Everything else is storytelling. 1/n

A year ago, the expanded child tax credit ended. Between 2020 and 2021, the credit helped reduce child poverty by more than 40 percent. But since the program expired, child poverty rates have crept back up. bit.ly/3VMcGLf
I have heard stochastic terrorism described as a pan of popcorn on a hot stove, where the pan is social media and the kernels are random members of the public. Far-right figures are the ones turning up the heat, pouring oil in the pan, and shaking the kernels around.
That’s a first step. Next step would be eliminating the sales tax on essential items like menstrual products and diapers. Many states have already taken that step and I hope Kansas will quickly follow suit. #ksleg #axethetax
Eliminating the food tax is set to save Kansas families hundreds of dollars per year. There is no need to wait until 2025 for Kansans to see these savings. It's time to eliminate the sales tax on food totally and completely.
