@kfitchardJust a befuddled man working as a tech writer for Nokia Bell Labs. You may remember me from such blogs as Gigaom.

It's a been a while since I flexed my feature-writing chops. My profile on one of @belllabs young optical rock stars Vivian Chen bell-labs.com/institute/blog…
Do we need more "slow thinking" machines. The future of #AI and #MachineLearning is in system 2 problems, says @wseankennedy nokia.ly/2F0RrDa #FutureHuman #AugmentedHuman @belllabs
Liberating the brain from the physical constraints of the body. It's not mad science; it's the basis of @MiguelNicolelis's research on the brain-machine interface and the subject of the latest Future Human Podcast nokia.ly/2OdxyKp #AugmentedHuman
Sure fiber may be the holy grail of access, but those old copper wires in your walls and up on poles are remarkably resilient as a broadband technology, In our latest Future Human podcast, @BellLabs researcher Werner Coomans explains why bell-labs.com/var/articles/p…
Pew! Pew! Pew! That's the sound of lasers targeting the next pandemic. Here's my story on @BellLabs' Michael Eggleston on how Optical Coherence Tomography could be used to identify disease outbreaks before they become pandemics nokia.ly/315Uh2G #AugmentedHuman
Here's an interesting nugget from Ville-Veikko Mattila's @BellLabs blog post on future video trends: Half of all video won't be viewed by humans but machines. #AutonomousVehicles, robots and smart surveillance cameras will be doing the watching for us bell-labs.com/var/articles/i…
Fiber optics isn't just bridging continents or oceans. It's increasingly linking data centers a few dozen km apart to power the #EdgeCloud. Fred Buchali explains how @Bell-Labs is redesigning optical systems for the world of distributed data centers bell-labs.com/var/articles/t…
There's a new tool for devs working in #Serverless Computing. @BellLabs has launched KNIX (an amalgam of #Kubernetes and #unix) that overcomes the problem of function startup latency in serverless cloud computing applications. bell-labs.com/var/articles/h…
Sure, we know MIMO is a critical component of 4G/5G technologies, but how does it really work? @BellLabs research engineer Stefan Wesemann explains MIMO's mysteries in the latest Future Human Podcast bell-labs.com/var/articles/p…
Break out the dive suits. AI is descending to the ocean depths. @BellLabs researcher Maria Ionescu is exploring how AI reinforcement learning can produce super-intelligent, self-optimizing transoceanic fiber-optic cables. Very Jules Verne bell-labs.com/var/articles/a…
1.52 terabits per second. That's an almost inconceivable amount of capacity, and @BellLabs achieved it over a single wavelength on a single strand of fiber. Why do we need such monstrously high bitrates in our pipes? @tsizer explains why: bit.ly/2WwFFaH
Two @UCBerkeley researchers have designed a chip that solves big problems with the speed and efficiency of quantum computers. Their innovation earned them the 2019 Nokia Bell Labs Prize bell-labs.com/var/articles/b…

Microsoft does not make it easy to buy an Xbox. I'm an old man. I want to play my "stories" on the picture tube. Yet I am somehow required to bundle Fortnite or Anthem or others game I am just too old to comprehend in my purchase.
Curious on others' thoughts on Uber vs. Lyft are. Every problem I have had with a rideshare has been with Uber. I assume that's because the schmucks start with Uber and drop out when they realize they can't hack. The pros then gravitate to Lyft. Just conjecture on my part tho.
An @uber driver almost ran over my dog when he tried to run a stop sign tonight. Then he flipped me off when I glared at him. As if I needed another reason to not use Uber
Heading to @ALIVErescue gala this weekend. The theme is speakeasy. Anticipate plenty of dogs in bootlegger and flapper outfits.
No lines at the polls this morning, which is normally the busiest time. Not a good start, Chicago
