The Speaker met with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago last night, but is refusing to say whether Trump asked Johnson to press the Ethics Committee to not release the Gaetz report. "I'm not talking to anyone about what I've said to Trump," Johnson told reporters.

Johnson two days ago: "The Speaker of the House is not involved in that. Can't be involved in that." Johnson today: "I'm going to strongly request that the Ethics Committee not issue the report because that is not the way we do things in the House."

“The rules of the House have always been that a former member is beyond the jurisdiction of the Ethics Committee,” Johnson said, when asked if the public has a right to see the report, given Gaetz will serve as Trump’s top attorney. “And so I don't think that's relevant.”

Imagine disqualifying a highly-qualified physician with a decades worth of service leading government health agencies based only on the fact that she is a transgender woman. And then comparing this woman to a sex offender with no experience doing the job he’s now tasked with.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is answering reporters’ questions about Gaetz by holding up a photo of Rachel Levine, an assistant HHS secretary, and asking reporters “did you ask Democratic senators about this?”
