3rd grade mathematicians at #PS56Q have been hard at work matching drawings, diagrams, arrays, and situations to multiplication expressions. They also made Place Value Creatures using base ten blocks and found their total value by adding hundreds, tens, and ones.
Fun day with our Cohort 2 Math Project crew today as we dug into Mathematics Instructional Shift 1: Beginning with Sensemaking and Shift 2: Shared, Low-Floor, High-Ceiling Tasks. #nycdoeteachers #mathshifts
Energizing day with our new cohort of K-2 Math Project teachers as we explored the developmental stages on the counting continuum Excited to see our Cohort 2 teachers on Monday who are returning for their second year of the Project! #mathpd #counting
Fun first day with our new cohort of Grades 3-5 Math Project teachers. So many great conversations as we explored how to help students make sense of multiplication and division. #iteachmath #mathprofessionaldevelopment #mathprofessionallearning
Lots of partner discussions today as 2nd Grade students at P.S./I.S. 217 explored odd and even numbers and used physical materials and drawings to represent their understanding. #nycdoe #nycdistrict2 #evenandodd #2ndgrade #2ndgrademath #2ndgradeteacher
🫱🏼🫲🏽💡It’s National Swap Ideas Day!✨ 🧠 Educators, share a creative or helpful idea with a colleague today. Great ideas often emerge from collective brainstorming and diverse perspectives. Let’s inspire each other!
Do you use pattern blocks for fractions? Building quadrilaterals from fraction blocks and finding their fractional value is a fun way to review #geometry and #fraction skills simultaneously.
Exploring fractions today with @k5mtr and @Nicolak5mtr - so many hands on examples to engage students!
This week our K-2 Math Project group had the opportunity to visit P.S./I.S. 217 to observe Number Talks, Fluency Centers and a Math Journal lesson in action. These visits are always inspiring for our Project teachers. HUGE thanks to our host teachers!
We are grateful for our wonderful partner schools and districts for another year filled with collaboration, learning and aiming high and wish you all the best for a restful, magical holiday season!
A fabulous morning with @D27NYC principals as we reviewed the Standards for Mathematical Practice and began to create a set of core beliefs and district norms for teaching and learning mathematics. Lots of exciting work happening! @NYCSchools
Class 406 partnerships building multiplication fluency by using engaging interactive math games. @k5mtr @literacy_fox @MrsHarrisonPS60 @D27NYC @PS60queens
4th Graders working in partnerships this afternoon as they play Place Value Triangle to practice comparing numbers. #mathcenters #smallgroupinstruction #nycdoe
Overhead in 1st Grade. Partner 1: "Two more than 9 is 11." Partner 2: "I agree. You can also say, The sum of 9 plus 2 is 11." #factfluency #mathcenters #1stgrade
3rd Grade mathematicians working on rounding to the nearest 10 in Center time and Teacher Time today at PS/IS217. #mathworkshop #mathcenters #3rdgrade
Great to see 2nd Grade mathematicians hard at work in 2nd Grade at PS/IS 217 this morning. Structures for small group work are working seamlessly. 🙂
Kindergarten is the perfect time to begin providing opportunities for students to make their own decisions about how to record their math ideas and thinking without the limiting structure of a worksheet or workbook. #mathjournals #iteachmath #Kindergarten
Problem solving is challenging so we try to add in some fun! @k5mtr the Math Centers provide word problems that you can cut apart. Ss pick a problem and use blank paper to work out a solution. This looks & feels different than a worksheet! #choice #Perseverance #grade3 @Aldendux
