I don't have an issue with playing a character with a mostly singular personality. My issue is that Rook is a total fucking dork.
To be fair Half-Life 2 has been out forever and if you’ve not played it yet, what have you been doing with your life. But there should really be no excuse to pick up one of the GOATs of gaming, and see how this game has influenced so many, 20 years on.

do not play dragon age veilguard if "being your own character" is your motivation for RPGs. hilariously, you can find that in Starfield, which is why i liked THAT game. Veilguard is about Rook, and they have a personality type that you can't really change.
The game suffers from FO4 dialog wheel. Your character can only be one thing. I'm like 28-29 hours in. When does it get better?

i also now disagree with the "overwatch map" level design criticism against veilguard. that is true for parts of the first 2 cities (i still HATE Treviso as a location), but it's far more expansive and naturalistic than initial impressions. the maps feel closer to the Zelda…
