We’re seeking a postdoc/student excited about animal communication, brain-wide circuits, microscopy, singing fish (@danionella), wacky ideas and who likes to: get things done, experiment, analyse, ask, learn, help and cooperate. jlab.berlin Please RT

In what organism might your research questions be most tractable? Tiny, transparent Danionella fishes could be the ticket to uncovering general principles of brain-wide circuits. Also, they make sounds. And some have fangs. Read more here: nature.com/articles/s4159…

I’m very excited for this paper to be out. It was a huge collaboration with many talented individuals from @BassLabCornell to investigate how the brain generates context specific vocalizations shorturl.at/oszUX

Accepting a fellowship should not punish the trainee! Yet @harvardmed changes the status of postdocs, from “salary” to “stipend” when a postdoc becomes a fellow, resulting in a net loss of ~$3k/yr in compensation due to:

This is pretty awesome. Makes me want to publish in eLife. After my CNS paper is accepted, of course... elifesciences.org/articles/83889

Happy postdoc appreciation week. Are you a PI and wanna really appreciate your PDs? Advocate for above poverty line ($82k in SF) salaries and COLA. Don't brush it off saying 'they are just trainees'. PDs produce labor that runs our science labs. Call them scientists, not trainees

Hottake (after watching a rat do its thing for 45 min): Automated analyses & deep learning approaches are cool & useful, but nothing can replace experimenter observation. We in #neuroscience #behavioralneuroscience can't lose sight of this. (Don't @ me if it is too late.)

It is a GOOD DAY.

Honored to have played a small part in the first full publication on Danionella dracula from the Bass lab.

The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we've picked up actual sound. Here it's amplified, and mixed with other data, to hear a black hole!

I see lots of great papers coming out analysing the functions of specific brain areas (sometimes several at a time) in behavioral control, using all the amazing tools now to hand in rodents... 1/n

I am honored and very grateful to have been chosen for the ISN Young Investigator Award! I'm really looking forward to the conference next week, eager to present all the cool things about the sensory ecology of net-casting spiders :) @neuroethology

Getting ready to travel for a conference. I always test “in” (to protect fellow attendees) and test “out” to protect my family. With as much money as organizations waste on crap swag at these meetings, there’s really no excuse not to provide everyone with two $10 tests. 🤦🏽‍♂️

The cover of the latest issue of BRAIN comes from our paper: Reducing VEGF-A signaling in the vasculature improved brain blood flow in Alzheimer's mouse models by reducing capillary obstructions. Created using WOMBO Dream, an AI-based algorithm that creates images based on words.
