In the early 2000s, people who love Ningaloo came together to advocate for its protection. The community urged ministers to recognise Ningaloo’s world-class status and the Ningaloo Coast was inscribed on the World Heritage list thirteen years ago today theage.com.au/national/why-e…

On this #WorldDugongDay, we'd like to highlight a key oceanic region for dugongs - the Northern Mozambique Channel. Madagascar's Nosy Hara archipelago is a particular favourite for these sea cows who, as picky eaters, can appreciate the area's diverse array of seagrass species!

Wetlands are disappearing! 🦆💧 According to @ramsarconv, nearly 90% of the world’s wetlands have been degraded since the 1700s, and we are losing wetlands three times faster than forests. #Wetlands are vital #ForNature, people and our planet.🌍 #ActForWetlands

#Shark news: worrying declines in many populations, but evidence they can rebound when we remove the pressure. #30x30 for healthy reefs, resilient communities and more 🦈🦈🦈 @SharkColin @SARRInitiative

Our results show that reef shark populations can be recovered by implementing well enforced marine protected areas (#MPAs) and regulating fishing. Using these tools can effectively recover populations in relatively short time frames.

Really recommend listening to this interview with Tim Winton author. Compelling words about why protecting places like Ningaloo and GBR matters now and for the future. @tanya_plibersek @MarkMcGowanMP @AnnastaciaMP @FriendsofOcean #oceans abclisten.page.link/CTrv7LKkWaFaep…
