This is one of the secrets to building great looking dashboards: use more imagery. Bring over your smart art from ppt if you need to. Most dashboard building tools don’t have all the design features you need for complex designs, but they all support importing images.

He used a background image, with data overlaid, to tell the story of the sales pipeline for this company. This image shows how this works, with the white numbers overlaid on an image. Clever, right? And so much easier to interpret!

If you're looking for more of my Excel tutorials, then feel free to join the newsletter. I send out free sample files & tutorials each week. It's new & I'm looking for feedback on the first sequence, so hop on and let me know what you think: excel.ck.page/join

Back on my #Excel design journey 📈 I love a good geo chart and always have fun finding way to visualize geographic data. This little interactive dashboard uses Microsoft's financial sample data and is filterable by segment and product.

I don’t necessarily agree with the “should not exist” premise but this thread has a great set of guidelines for thinking critically about when to use a dashboard versus just updating your product UI/workflows/notifications.

I've spent the last seven years kind of building dashboards. I fundamentally believe they should not exist, in most cases, for more users, and I beg you all to stop building them.

Spicy new flavor of retro-futurism just dropped

I didn’t know that I loved #CassetteFuturism until just a second ago.

All videos are actually three-dimensional objects Usually what we see is just a small slice along the axis of time, but what if we could tangibly interact with the geometry of this space?
