We set out on a trip around lake Victoria to learn more about the current status and future potential of Interventional Radiology #irad in this densely populated & thriving area in East Africa. We drove through Tanzania 🇹🇿, Uganda 🇺🇬 & Kenya 🇰🇪 Here is a 🧵 on what we saw👇 1/18

In a mouse model of HCC, incomplete cryoablation followed by systemic matrix metalloproteinase inhibition led to greater CD8+ T-cell infiltration into the tumor than either treatment alone. @Yale_IR @LShewarega @JuliusChapiro bit.ly/3I3mnzS

Today we published our proposal to optimize the @BCLC_group staging system for loco-regional therapy. We introduce predictive quantitative tumor burden biomarkers to better allocate patients to TACE. Some BCLC C patients benefit from LRT. pubs.rsna.org/eprint/4T36CUM…

For very early stage (BCLC0) HCC 👉percutaneous ablation is recommended as the 1st line treatment option if the patient is not a candidate for a liver transplantation 👉TACE or TARE (now mentioned!) is indicated as a 2nd option in case ablation is not feasible/failed #iRad
