Not only are FRUS volumes well-edited and fairly comprehensive, they're also (now) entirely online and very accessible. Usually the first place any diplomatic historian starts: history.state.gov/historicaldocu…

It really is preposterous how much conventional wisdom about the United States,particularly its foreign policy history, is debunked by simply reading the official diplomatic history put out by the State department's official historian department. I get why this drove Chomsky nuts
