So many people need a hug, a forehead kiss, and a grilled cheese cut diagonal.
Pathways to Preserving Unity: 1. Humility: “I am willing to admit that my perspective may be incorrect or incomplete.” 2. Hospitality: “You are welcome here.” 3. Solidarity: “I stand with you.” 4. Mutuality: “We strengthen each other.” _____ [2-4 are from Sandra Von Opstal]
This is a gift.
Can I share somethin? This is from my podcast, New Living Treyslation, where I paraphrase scriptures in ways that connect with me. It’s Psalm 23. It made me nervous. This psalm is so dear to so many people. I didn’t want to offend anyone. But it blessed me. 1/2
Can we please go back to “In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity” ?
Some of you don’t listen to @BreneBrown and @PantsuitPolitic and it shows.
Suffering people often need others to have faith and hope for them. Admonitions to hope or trust only often result in despair; if the sufferers were able, they would do so. It is often helpful to say, “I know you struggle to hope right now. I will hope for you.”
If you go to grew up going to church, you know this song. If that isn’t your thing or your tradition, no worries, you can still bask in this (literally) timeless melody. Pro tip: I was feeling it on this pass and decided to just roll on into singing, so keep watching if you want.
Maybe we could reframe "social distancing" as "social solidarity". You're not withdrawing in fear. You're withdrawing as a way of standing with friends, loved ones and strangers who can't protect themselves without your help.
A very full six days - my heart is full ❤️ merry Christmas from the Wards. instagram.com/p/B6j0WwXp6F2t…
God doesn't expect us to remain stoic when our hearts are rent. We're not asked to put our masks on so we don't embarrass God with our suffering. We're not better Christians when we call the hardest parts of life good, but we can call God good in the hardest parts of our lives.
Too early for a Christmas post? If you're sick of seeing 'seasonal' goodies in the shops already, here's a brief post that just might change your mind: buff.ly/2OU2ktu
God makes a promise; faith believes it, hope anticipates it, patience waits for it.
Jesus knew Lazarus would rise again. Still, he wept. Because embracing pain is not negating faith. It's actually part of being in the likeness of God. So have hope, but don't deny your emotions. Pay attention to them. Feel what you feel. And enjoy the coming resurrection.
I've never regretted (1) assuming the best about people, (2) overlooking as much as possible, (3) offering more encouragement than advice and criticism, (4) and remembering the log in my eye will always skew how I see my pain, disappointments, and other people
