Just realized 2024 marks 30 years of working in a professional IT capacity. It’s been great, but this is how I would sum it up: The scourge of ransomware has turned what was once a fun job into an almost constant state of dread. IT is now almost 100% defense, and I hate that.

True quote or not, the sentiment is 100% true. I see church IT peers routinely “being good stewards” by creating arcane, difficult to manage, impossible-to-keep-running-should-the-genius-leave systems. Under the hood it’s really ego from knowing these systems, not saving $$.
