Decided to remove Twitter from my phone for a while. Felt like time for a break. If you need me, find me elsewhere. 😷 🐘

I've predicted that the Internet community could once again consider imposing punitive shutdowns as Russia's war drags on. pulse.internetsociety.org/blog/internet-… Show of hands: are Internet disconnections (against specific sanctioned companies, or against a whole country) ever a good idea?

Time to let the cat out of the bag! @tylerni7 and @michaelnute have been writing code to detect missile launches like tonight's North Korean ICBM test in GPS data. Missiles make ionospheric disturbances that GPS records. The yellow ripple is the ionospheric disturbance.

I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?" As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.

A 🧵 1/ So far I've been hopeful #RIPTwitter was hyperbole & Musk & his trusted advisors would either recognise Twitter isn't just about (bro) "code" but is increasingly part of a global #digitalcommons with a wide range of social, economic, legal & political implications, or...

I would argue that it is presently making a difference. During yesterday's WOW outage in the US, AS12083 misoriginated a couple hundred prefixes. Those with ROAs were far less affected by the leaked prefixes. Compare 23.153.224.0/24 (w/ ROA) vs 24.214.184.0/24 (w/o ROA).

Read how the draft Indian Telecommunication Bill 2022 may affect Internet-based services in India and, more broadly, the health of the global Internet. internetsociety.org/resources/doc/…

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of bots cried out and were .. not silenced twitter.com/mmasnick/statu…

My mentions are now full of crypto spam: airdrops and NFT come-ons from bots. The rate is increasing by the day. I suspect that this has always been out there, but Twitter's "ozone layer" has failed and bots now survive long enough to affect me. 😔

Reasonable people will observe that simply putting (parody) in your screen name doesn't actually make you a parodist. At best, you'd just be appropriating the form of a parodist to create momentary confusion with comedic effect. What would be the point?
