This is a repost of my original thread about Trump's election, which has since disappeared. This time I am reposting it is a single message. I feel anxious and saddened by Trump’s election. Years of turmoil and uncertainty await us. I have also come to believe that this is not…

Looks like Trump is going to win, potential landslide. Leading in every swing state. Let that sink in. PS: Long-form podcasts FTW. I hope to see politicians from both sides doing 2-3+ hour genuine, human conversations moving forward.

It's true that, with some work, students could find solutions to many (but not all) problems. With PS and exams, I got pretty good at tweaking to find new problems that are challenging enough to test understanding. Now those tweaks are easily solved by ChatGPT.

Me: How are you modeling that econometric relationship? Colleague: I’m using machine learning! Me: sigh Machine Learning by non-statisticians… #StatsMatters #Interpretability #Econometrics

Here's the challenge mode for all you math whizzes. Sample three numbers x, y, z uniformly at random in [0, 1], and compute (xy)^z. What distribution describes this result? Answer: It's uniform! I know how to prove it, but haven't yet found the "aha" style explanation where it…

he's right. the best education you can get is one-on-one mentorship by an expert who really cares about you and your career. that can actually be easier to find when your professors aren't world famous and under relentless pressure to publish.

On the Venezuelan elections: two obvious facts. First, the opposition won by a landslide of over 30% points difference. Second, the government has decided to steal the result.

My biggest issue with saying "Machine Learning is statistics" is more than half of the folks in machine learning don't know stuff you would learn in Stats 101 and vice versa for statisticians. So lumping them all together just seems like a recipe for frustration.
