Not only does 23andMe's potential sale raise privacy issues, but the open-source DNA database GEDmatch might be sharing your genetic information with Facebook. My latest in the @latimes latimes.com/opinion/story/…

OPINION: "The IRS needs to focus its crosshairs on taxing the public, not terrorizing it," writes Shayak Sarkar, an economist and professor of law at UC Davis. trib.al/sGevERK

A good (and correct) outcome in the CFPB case. But something not to lose sight of: this is yet another case that shouldn't have gotten to SCOTUS in the first place, but for a radical Fifth Circuit that's been emboldened by a radical SCOTUS.

The Supreme Court's third and FINAL opinion of the day is in the CFPB. In a 7–2 opinion by Justice Thomas, the court UPHOLDS the CFPB's funding structure, concluding that it does NOT violate the appropriations clause. supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf… Alito and Gorsuch dissent.

I cannot think of a funnier way to punish the most left-wing Columbia grads for protesting Israel than by blacklisting their most right-wing classmates from the jobs they most want.

NEW: 13 federal judges say they will no longer hire clerks from Columbia Law School OR Columbia College after the university allowed an encampment on its lawn to spiral into a destructive occupation of a campus building. This is the first clerkship boycott to hit undergrads.🧵

Last month, @public_rights re-filed our lawsuit on behalf of @SherryBostonDA @JaredforDA and DA Jonathan Adams to fight GA's attack on prosecutorial discretion. Learn more about our lawsuit in my colleague Jordan's article in @BrennanCenter 's must-read @StateCourtRpt

In Georgia, a lawsuit is challenging a statute that expands the role of the legislative branch in overseeing the speech and discretionary decisions of elected district attorneys. statecourtreport.org/our-work/analy…

It was a treat to join @StrictScrutiny_ and talk about judicial gerrymandering, the upcoming elections, and more. Any time I get to spend with @ProfMMurray @LeahLitman and @kateashaw1 is time well spent! Check it out 👇

NEW: We break down the FL SCt decisions on abortion & other news with Erinn Haines (@19thnews). Then we talk with Jill Habig @jehabig @public_rights & Tyler Yarbro from the TN Freedom Circle to talk about judicial gerrymandering & harnessing local power! crooked.com/podcast/florid…

Understand this: Floridians are about to have less freedom because Donald Trump overturned Roe. That’s why this ban is possible. But voters will get the last word. The right to an abortion is on the ballot this November. And when we fight for reproductive freedom, we win.

The Florida Supreme Court struck down its state abortion protection — paving the way for a six-week ban to take effect — but will allow voters to weigh in on whether they can amend the state’s constitution to explicitly enshrine abortion rights. bit.ly/3TXNKCu

An underreported feature of 5th circuit jurisprudence is that they're now just constantly issuing "administrative stays" that last for months, without opinion, and consolidating the actual stay motions with the merits. FRAP does not provide for such "administrative stays." /1

Here’s the actual order that the Fifth Circuit filed (but didn’t post to PACER) Saturday night in the SB4 case. Among other things, unlike the docket entry, the order makes clear that Judge Ramirez *disagreed* with the majority’s decision to put SB4 back into effect.

This year, local election officials will face so many challenges--I'm so glad for @public_rights to be in the trenches supporting them!

Shocked to see Pajama Game on this list. Seven and a half cents doesn't buy a hell of a lot, but it should buy more respect!

A true honor to represent this group of unrivaled experts about the history behind Section 3 of the 14th Amendment @public_rights

Four prize-winning historians show SCOTUS in this friend-of-the-court brief how the “star-crossed prosecution of Jefferson Davis both shaped and illuminated the meaning of Section Three” of the 14th Amendment lest “the curse of that hereafter come again.” supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23/2…

We must confront antisemitism from all corners and those who use it to further political goals. But just as it's wrong to hold all Jews responsible for the actions of Israel's govt, so too is it wrong to count all criticism of Israel/pro-Palestinian protesters as antisemitic.

NEW: For the first time, the @ADL is counting pro-Palestinian rallies that do not feature overt hostility toward Jews in its count of antisemitic incidents forward.com/news/575687/an…

After World War II, the Geneva Conventions of 1949 were adopted. They were meant to put an end to the indiscriminate warfare of that era. Netanyahu seems to be saying that he will fight by WWII standards, not the current Geneva Conventions. That means he is directing war crimes.

When Biden faulted Israel for “indiscriminate bombing,” Netanyahu bridled, the president says. “Well, you carpet-bombed Germany. You dropped the atom bomb. A lot of civilians died.” bit.ly/3RJAhgu

Let’s say Dems do make a deal. In six months, when Ukraine funding runs out again, what else with negotiators demand? Abortion bans? Attacks on trans people? Where will it end?

The Dems ask for Dreamers to be included in the immigration deal, the GOP says no and Ds take it off the table. right away. Meanwhile, the Rs don’t take anything off the table- they just keep harping on the same topics over and over.
