A potential cat amongst the pigeons with some of my thoughts here but hopefully articulated well enough to cause conversation rather than confrontation! Really happy to get my second @SportsmithHQ article over the line. As always please reach out with any questions!

Load monitoring: Moving beyond total distance A thread 🧵 Info c/o @jakegillies sportsmith.co/articles/load-…

Strap yourself in for a long but good read about how we use off-feet conditioning in pre-season at Bears 📅 Schedule 🫀 Adaptation ❓ Methods ↗️ Progression 🥵 Intensity 💬 Feedback Any Q’s fire away!

Energy Systems Development in preseason 🧵⬇️ How do you best supplement on feet training with off feet work??

You cannot tell a flow state by heart rate drop… His HR dropped mostly because the game ended and he stopped moving… That’s not a flow state. Let’s stop with junk science explanations. Let’s use good science accurately.

When you’re @Cristiano, there’s no fear in football. See how CR7 entered a flow state and dropped his heart rate moments before changing momentum of the match against Slovenia. See you in the quarterfinals, Portugal!

If you’re a sports performance or medical practitioner, you’re expected to produce insights from the data you collect (whether you like it or not!) This task will hit you in the face real hard if you’re not prepared Let me talk to you about data wrangling… 🧵👇🏼

Dislike this narrative of "Aston Villa don't work so hard" because they have less distance. TD is a poor indicator of the work being done. They may have low TD because they're well drilled and don't have to chase after an opponent because of an error. Work done =/= good work.

How Aston Villa catch opponents offside 🧐

NEW TO SPORTSMITH PREMIUM! We are delighted to have @peteburridge deliver a Premium presentation on "A practical guide to eccentric training". This presentation sits alongside those from @les7spellman @Elevate_Rehab_ @DHMov @TomDosSantos91 + more! Sportsmith.co/premium/videos

Very fond of my time at St. Mary’s. It was a great first step in my career and an unbelievable resource during my time as a student. Although, despite hours of quality coaching, I am still rubbish at Olympic lifting. But that speaks far more about me than the course!

Always great to see the success of some of our former students. @jakegillies completed his BSc with us and is now the 1st team sport scientist with @BristolBears Listen to his thoughts on our programme.

"GPS metrics do not respect the flow of the match, the ball in play or the nature of the referee. If we try to base an RTP programme on these metrics alone, we will be selling the player short" @jakegillies sportsmith.co/articles/answe…

If you’re not bored of my chat, here’s another example of technology in sport and this time it is a sneak peak at how we use our @VALDPerformance gear at the High Performance Centre.

Curious to find out how tech is used in professional rugby? Tim Wright, our Head of Operations, had a chat with Jake Gillies from Bristol Bears and found out how the team is leveraging technology to improve player performance 👇👇👇 xledger.com/uk/blog/winnin…

A little insight into how we use tech and data here at Bears 🐻

Our Head of Operations, Tim Wright, was interested in how others use Xledger UK's innovative technology and how data can power their ambition. Watch the full video to find out what Tech and Sports have in common ow.ly/Sqvm50Qwkx0

I’m a big fan of getting the chance to openly discus my thoughts around sport science and in particular the use of GPS in team sports. Thanks to Eric for having me on!

In this episode I invited @jakegillies to talk about his thoughts on GPS data, what kinda metrics will he track and why,and as a sports scientist how he communicate with strength coaches and the coaching staff!!! Big shout out to @peteburridge youtu.be/rfq9WX_wi7E?si…
