#LabourExploitation in fisheries does not just occur in SE Asia. Today we’ve released the most comprehensive assessment of working conditions in UK fishing. Full report here: nottingham.ac.uk/Research/Beaco… 1/8

ITF alongside a number of campaign groups and charities have warned the UK government that migrant fishers are facing breaches of their human rights. Worryingly, there is currently no UK labour protection for these workers. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Migrant fishers are skilled workers - not legal slaves who can be subjected to human trafficking. We need proper enforcement to protect workers from abuse. That means prosecuting the criminals involved in human trafficking of migrant workers.

From the first paragraph, I've been in tears. Brace yourselves, this is an utterly heartbreaking and crushing read. “They took revenge on us through our children.” - @WaelDahdouh's interview with @NesrineMalik is an absolute must-read. theguardian.com/world/2024/oct…

“A step towards justice.” Migrant fishermen win modern slavery claim against UK government. “But the scars from that time are still with me” says one of the fishermen. bbc.com/news/articles/…

The fishing industry depends on migrant workers, who in turn face repeated, systemic exploitation. It is not just a few bad apples, but a systemic underbelly of exploitation. With the Employment Rights Bill going through parliament, the government could set this right.

The coveted 'Marine Stewardship Council' (MSC) label is familiar to many shoppers - it's supposed to give a guarantee that fish is sustainably caught. New research shows it's failing to protect fishers from forced labour. Story⬇️ bit.ly/3XarXrr

A temporary injunction halts the H2-A rules aiming to protect vulnerable guest workers from exploitation and trafficking, like that endured by Georgia farm workers who were forced to work at gunpoint. This is a shocking ruling. Is the GOP openly nostalgic for the plantation?

After filing suit in June, we’ve blocked the Biden-Harris administration’s pro-union rule for farm workers. The President & VP can’t use the Labor Department to impose unreasonable & unlawful demands on America’s agricultural employers. We’ll always fight for GA farmers.

Tonight's BBC #Disclosures episode showed the risks of exploitation faced by migrant workers in the fishing industry. We need urgent government action now to ensure access to justice for migrant fishers including a review of the 'transit visa' #BBCScotland
