Reclaiming joy in the midst of challenge is the balm to what ails. So grateful for all of you #highered #teachingmatters #AcademicChatter

How might we reclaim the joy of teaching amidst COVID-19, political unrest, climate change and economic disruption? Our director, along with her co-authors, explores this topic in a recent piece published in Faculty Focus: facultyfocus.com/articles/philo…

Discussing our book Learning that Matters with Bonni on Teaching in Higher Ed was such fun!

Thank you for your response! Too many hide behind "rigor" to defend dehumanizing students. Rigor is being stiiff, harsh and inflexible - rigor mortis. Not what I want in my courses (or life in general).

"‘impostor syndrome’ ignores ...institutional factors, policies, and practices that cause Black students to logically respond with distress and frustration." Students cannot meditate away racism (and it is wrong for us to ask them to). tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Learning from a excellent webinar by @tiabmcnair about how to change our institutional culture to best serve learners and be a race-conscious institution.

Yes - and recognize that "normal" didn't support so many students, staff, and faculty.

Don't let a sense of urgency drive the decision making process - especially decisions we are making about our classes. Make more time for connection, reflection, and affirmation - we all need more of that these days!

What is a question from an end of course student survey that you love? (Or a question you WISH was on your institution's survey)

Need some assistance with helping your students see the value of your course and how it relates to their lives? Try the "Build Connections" activity. Find a link to it on our website under the resources for Ch. 9. learningthatmatters.weebly.com/resources.html

A powerful, short essay which was a great dose of hope this morning "AGENCY + PATHWAYS = HOPE" And highlights how we need to humbly learn from & support our colleagues at community colleges and in the global south.

New essay from @susmcgowan & me in @IntlJourAcadDev : "we need to center equity and justice at the heart of academic development despite the disappointments and despair that we surely will encounter." Free copies here: tandfonline.com/eprint/V3VYHQV…

Listening & learning from @tony_jack author of The Privileged Poor - he says "Access ain't inclusion." Having a diverse first year class is an important first step, but not enough. We need to listen to students & understand their paths.
