Finally I got the picture 😮 Snowy Durdle door in Dorset One of my most memorable moments, capturing this very rare image. The fact that we never really get snow down south and especially at such an iconic tourist attraction such as Durdle Door!

Ok, two reasons why I think Russia probably used a variant of the long-gestating RS-26 Rubezh IRBM: (1) Russia hinted that it resumed development of the RS-26 this summer and (2) that's what the Ukrainians predicated a day ago, down to the launch site.

NEW: An NSC official tells @TBowmanNPR that Russia launched an "experimental medium-range ballistic missile" against Ukraine.

The MOD is retiring a number of capabilities to save money. In the biggest cuts to the RN in nearly 20 years, 5 warships, over 100k tonnes of shipping, are being scrapped along with 32 helicopters and dozens of drones. Long thread on why this isn't as bad as some may think. /1

So, a few words about this new Russian nuclear doctrine, but here's the short version: It's not a doctrine, it's a ploy. /1

calling it right now, 2024 was the year of slop. it's the year slop took over every facet of culture. google became slop. slop drowned out journalism. not just ai slop–there were slop games like Concord. movie slop like Borderlands. we let a slop ceo get a slop president elected

Make art every day. Make art when you don’t feel like it, when you doubt yourself, when you think it’s hopeless, when you want to give up. We never know when death will come to claim us, but the one thing her cold hands can’t touch is the art we leave behind.

This weekend's read focuses on one of the less well-known missions carried out by the 8th Airforce in September 1944. The daylight resupply of the Warsaw uprising. The 95th, 100th & 390th BGs flying deep into occupied Europe to drop weapons, ammo, Meds & rations.

Honestly, most of us said everything there needed to be said two years ago, and now it’s just constantly tapping the sign

Let’s ignore the moral aspects of “UA needs to make territorial concessions to RU to avoid nuclear apocalypse and stop the war” and just look at RU's track record of nuclear blackmail. 1999: Russia (not Putin) starts the 2nd Chechen war. The US condemns. Russia screams “nukes!”

Re-emergence of tattooing in Japan. After very little mention of tattooing in the historical record from the 9th century onward, tattooing suddenly re-emerged in the 1600s. Some writers speculated that the takeover of the Ryukyu Kingdom by the Satsuma domain had a role.

Many like the idea of building with spare logs but don't like the look. Don't worry about that you can dress it up to look like a neogothic villa or a renaissance chateau or a rustic wooden cottage. Anything.

Not traditional, but the legendary Rob Roy's "Cordwood Building" is the canonical book on this dead easy way to build robust, safe, clean homes out of natural materials. Don't fancy the look? Just clad it to look any way you want. If I was frail or elderly this would be my build.

THE FANTASTIC ADVENTURES OF ADAM ANT (Tops, 1982): There had been several pop star comic strips, but none as brilliant as this, starring the Dandy Highwayman himself. Plucked from an Ants gig to travel through time, Adam fights the likes of Cerberus and, yes, Satan himself!

Every time there are stories suggesting that 'tonight's a great night to see a meteor shower', I always make sure I avoid seeing the celestial display. I've read Day of the Triffids. I am not going blind if we're being invaded.
