Like criticism? Love The Sopranos? Get excited by the phrase "Proust's gabagool"? You could do worse than read 'Everything Just Goes Black' my essay on time, melodrama, and ending in HBO's greatest series: ejumpcut.org/currentissue/D… 📺

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Frank Auerbach (1931-2024). We were honoured to stage a major exhibition of his earlier work earlier this year, where he also recorded a rare interview reflecting on his life and artistic legacy. courtauld.ac.uk/news-blogs/202…

"His body has kept the score—that is, a kind of music written down." I wrote for @poetrymagazine on the brilliant radioactive literature of East German poet, novelist, essayist, & underground man Lutz Seiler >>> poetryfoundation.org/articles/16236…

The violence in Amsterdam last night has been widely described as a pogrom against Jews. This is not only misleading but politically dangerous. A thread.

Okay...Socrates is doing this on a rolling basis. Pitch me books: socratesonthebeach (at) gmail.com I do want a review of Lutz's Backwardness, since there's been none. At least 2K words.

Was just thinking on this and goddamned tired of it. Think we'll start a new Review of Contemporary Fiction where only small presses are covered. Paying the critic. The Blackwells, the Craigs, the Tudor-Sideris deserve better than the unimpressive hit parade of the same 12 people

I wrote this when I was really young, so I hesitate to share it. But I think it may be a helpful introduction for people who have never read Gary or have only read the novels but not the essays, etc. He was a great writer and an irreplaceable person nplusonemag.com/issue-26/revie…
