The term “slop opera” just landed in my head unbidden. Could this be a thing? Is it necessary? Is it true?

The reactionary's paradox. The past that you love is precisely what gave rise to the present that you hate.

I unironically believe that he is already, and over time will increasingly be recognized as, the seminal 20th century anglophone novelist. I wrote a little about some of the ways his omnipresent but un acknowledged literary influence here: scholars-stage.org/on-the-tolkien…

Me at the office around 11am, thinking about the burger I'm going to get to eat in an hour

'Gorilla is thinking about something' Researchers say gorillas use human-like facial expressions and they can even smirk like this but it usualy means something different from human meanings.

I guess you could say the real crisis is friends we didn't make along the way ☹️

ReReadingWolfe's tweet image.

Just dove into a second crack at Gene Wolfe's Urth of the New Sun, and I'm enjoying it so much. It comes after the Book of the New Sun, a tetralogy that starts with The Shadow of the Torturer. The series is an all-time fave. It's not for everyone but you should give it a try.

Good advice for any critic or creative

style and quality are two different things. there are different ways to make a chest. but also ways that are fucked up. one should parse style from quality putthison.com/lean-and-clean…

Ope! Welp. ...Yeah

Write your obituary in three words.

Yup! Just like old star wars was made by a guy marinated in Arthurian legend, screwball comedies, kurosawa, frank Herbert, flash Gordon, asimov, Joseph Campbell, etc., and the most recent star wars was made by guys who just grew up watching old star wars

This seems like a common thing. Somebody pointed out on here, the early seasons of the Simpsons were written by eclectic nerds who had marinated in all sorts of weird old media. The newer seasons are written by people who grew up watching the Simpsons.

New language pet peeve: using "lyricism" as a fancy word for "lyrics"
