Great reflections here from one of my favourite people in the education sector: the endlessly questioning and always thought-provoking Becks Boomer-Clark ⁦@vianclark#keepgettingbetter@Ambition_Insttes.com/magazine/leade…

Well done @JoshMacAlister for bringing this forward, and building a strong coalition of support. Phones can be wonderful, but how we use them and how our children use them in and out of school matters so much - and government support here is really important

Today I’m launching my Private Members’ Bill - the Safer Phones Bill - to protect children from the harms that can be caused by excessive screen time, and the use of social media and other apps, many of them addictive by design. 👉 saferphonesbill.co.uk

We ask schools to do a lot of things for us as a society and as a country - I think mobile phones is an area where sensible government action could really help drive a wider societal shift

Former teacher and current Labour MP @JoshMacAlister is bringing forward a bill for a statutory ban on phones in schools in an effort to address children’s addictive use of the devices tes.com/magazine/news/…

A great reminder on a Monday morning! Really exciting to be launching the first NPQ SENCO programme - I hope everyone doing this programme up and down the country finds it really productive professional development, and that together we can make a difference. @Ambition_Inst

Some good stuff here, and this is also positive: “I will therefore commit to publication of pay and progression data by protected characteristics, in parallel with the department’s written evidence, which can support your recommendations this year, and be viewed by the sector.”

Breaking: @bphillipsonMP has asked the School Teachers’ Review Body for recommendations on 2025 teacher pay 'at the earliest point', as the new government seeks to move the process earlier in the year schoolsweek.co.uk/phillipson-ask…

I love this!!

So proud of this incredible team. Master problem-solvers, dedicated to supporting ECTs 🤩 #TeamECT #BeBrave #OneTeam #KeepGettingBetter @Ambition_Inst #PutYourWelliesOnThePeg 😎

Thanks very much to @EduPolicyInst @jzuccollo for excellent hosting of a great discussion on a key priority for the education sector

Teacher recruitment and retention is one of the most pressing issues facing the education system. Good to join leaders from across the sector and the new Schools Minister @CMcKinnellMP at the Policy Institute and @NEUnion Roundtable.

Teachers play a really important role, and we need to find ways of making working in education sustainable and attractive at all stages of people’s careers. This work @DixonsAcademies is one powerful way to shift the dial - and we’re very pleased to support it @Ambition_Inst

"Education is a hard landscape, but the work we do is life changing. By introducing a nine-day fortnight we are aiming to give our staff more agency in their role." Our School and College Trust Leader, @ldsparkes, spoke live on @BBCRadio4 this morning.

Thanks to the whole team behind this project @stefaniemeliss @Suchmo83 Sonal Patel @SCottinghatt @hancheetham, to @Ambition_Inst @h_spencer for continuing to invest in evidence to support better PD, and to @MrARobbins for a thoughtful forward

How about @KateChhatwal @natalieperera1 @GinaCicerone @sarahjwaite @dkgill - all brilliant women and always something interesting going on!

Looking for a charity CEO to profile in the next issue - particularly keen to hear from women & underrepresented groups from charities with something interesting going on right now! Email melissa.moody@charitytimes.com

I think this is a really important challenge for us to tackle as a sector. We’re not making the most of the talent in this country if we only recruit from some sections of the population, and we’re limiting children’s opportunities to see and experience genuine inclusion

Many congratulations to everyone who’s passed their NPQ! Thank you for your commitment and expertise: we’ve really enjoyed working with you all

This is a great article by @LeoraCruddas on the evidence of what helps retain teachers in the profession. Accepting that some retention factors are outside our direct control, many of these things are though within our collective ability to shape and influence directly

Prioritising professional development, building relational trust and improving working conditions all contribute to teacher retention – @LeoraCruddas looks at the evidence for each tes.com/magazine/analy…

Just seeing our children off for their last day of term - thank you so much to teachers and school staff up and down the land for all you to do support and nurture all these young minds. Hoping the summer holidays are positive and restorative after all your hard work: thank you!

This is a sobering read from @EduPolicyInst - there are still huge gaps in attainment, exacerbated by child poverty, and an increasing urgency to tackle SEND particularly in the early years. We have made progress before in closing these gaps, but there is much still to do.

🚨EPI ANNUAL REPORT 2024🚨 📝Today we publish EPI’s 2024 Annual Report, looking at the state of education in England, with a focus on the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.. 📖Read the report in full on our website: epi.org.uk/publications-a…

This is great - well done to the team @NatInstTeaching and all those involved

Labour’s ambitions for SEND are important & necessary: they will also rely on well-supported & well-trained teachers. Currently only half of teachers say they feel equipped to support pupils with SEND effectively. The new NPQ on SEND could be an important part of the solution.
