After a week of wind, rain and cold, the sun was finally out this morning. A perfect opportunity to get some longbow sight marks for a National round for this weekends Virtual Inter-Club competition as part of the AGB Big Reopening. All the details are on the Club's website
We have 3 Tournaments coming up this year - The Acorn, Junior Acorn and Surrey Target Champs. See the website for further information and how to enter. We hope to see you all there! Details at: guildfordarcheryclub.co.uk/open-tournamen…
We return to shooting on 29th March - Yippee! Find out more over on the website guildfordarcheryclub.co.uk/a-return-to-sh… #GAC #archery
It may not but as physical as some, but archery is a sport, and warming up can save you injury later, plus nothing psyches out your competition more than a co-ordinated team warm-up before the competition starts!
Making the most of every minute of light on a summer evening, the sun is on the target face and you barely notice that shadows are getting longer and longer.
That arrow that has gone deep into the stand - one person can't pull it out, neither can 2, maybe 3 can dislodge it?
The light has finally faded to point where you can no longer shoot and you walk out to cover the targets and glance across the field to see the sun setting with a promise of another fine day tomorrow...
Sometimes, the latest technical fabric just won't do, and you need to experience archery as is was in 'olden times' (or the summer party is fancy dress 😀 )
It's a great feeling to be the captain of a big team of fellow members at an away shoot, all you've got to do is wrangle everyone together for a team photo - something akin to wrangling cats!
It always seems such a waste to throw away the target with just the centre shot out - you've paid for it through your subs, so you might as well ensure that you make use of ALL of the target face!
I must confess to being a 'fair weather archer' but even I would welcome the opportunity to shoot now, even if the rain was falling! In future I will remember the adage; 'There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing' 😀
Archery is perhaps not the greatest spectator sport, but we always like to welcome visitors to the field - even small and furry ones (as long as they are well behaved!)
Whether its fathers and sons, mums and daughters or brothers and sisters sharing a target, archery is almost unique as the sport that all of the family can enjoy and do together!
You've shot well, you've done the mental gymnastics of the scoring and asked everyone else how they did and you think that you MIGHT have done it, but you can never be sure until the results are announced YOU'VE WON!
From side bars to long rods and sights to arrow rests, there is always something new to try out, and as we all know, you CAN buy extra points! 😀
When you've tired of shooting at all the usual target faces, it's time to invent your own! We tried these tricky little devils one midsummers day evening 😀
The field is set up, the archers have all arrived, checked in and set up, and the first end is underway - time to take a moment to relax and enjoy the moment with the rest of the field party....
Remembering...tents and sunshine at the GAC Acorn competition. Hope we can compete again this year. #archery #GAC
Remember out longbow taster sessions? Learning the basics of traditional archery and imagining yourself amongst the lines of archers at Agincourt is great fun...
An evening spent fletching and fettling arrows is the perfect form of relaxation, and will help with the consistency and accuracy of your arrows!
