Ironic, at least, that Charlie Baker says college sports "needs more accountability". If not the #NCAA, then who? Read: Charlie Baker Talks Leading NCAA Into Uncertain Future, Life Lessons With UVA Darden Students – Darden Report Online shar.es/aggVA7

Imagine the following: You're a man who serves as Chairman of the Board of a large University who led the search for the recently hired president. Your wife runs a non-profit in the DEI space. She is the only full-time employee of the organization, serving as Founder, CEO,…

The collectives were prematurely launched due to over anxious boosters and a lack of institutional leadership, and should be closed as currently designed and merged into college athletics fundraising operations. apnews.com/article/nil-co…

Seems like a great hire.

"I've been telling people I kind of wish I had another year." New JMU football coach Bob Chesney touched down in Harrisonburg. Chesney addressed the team and observed Friday night's practice. He gets formally introduced as HC on Tuesday.

Dana’s accurate in her assessment of why Baker issued his proposal now. It’s meant to aid passage of an NCAA favorable fed law and to try and keep the P4 part of the NCAA. I also agree the current model is “incredibly broken.” Change that incorporates the athletes is needed.

Column: it's no longer the haves and have nots. It's the Have It Alls and everyone else. theathletic.com/5118467/2023/1…

It's a term needed to sell something that needs softening for those concerned it looks too much like P4P/comp. It's time to call it a pro league and deal with the consequences. Maybe non-profit institutions, mass rev. beneficiaries, don't want to risk the honest conversation?

The “putting money in a trust” thing is exactly how American Olympic sports step-stoned their way out of “amateurism.” For a hot minute USA T&F (then The Athletics Congress) held monies in a trust… until everyone realized it was silly, paternalistic, & unnecessary to do so. 🤷‍♀️

if we stay on this scorched earth path of litigating/threatening litigation of everything and anything in college sports, pretty soon we're just gonna have judges deciding who wins and loses every game. As the great Bob Kraft once said, "get the attorneys out of the room"

The answer will not come from 195 disconnected in every way countries who can't agree on very basic human rights issues and, if the oil companies can both reduce and keep fossil fuels in the game w/new tech, maybe everybody wins? washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…

And so it begins. Oregon Title IX Lawsuit Attacks NIL Collectives Over Gender Inequality – Sportico.com sportico.com/leagues/colleg…

Talked about Title IX implications and the current trend to bring fundraising closer, if not into, athletics dept. There is close proximity precedent that will trigger lawsuits. Why can't a group of college presidents come up with an alternative? This will linger in the courts.

Not at all surprised to read about an #NIL-related Title IX action. 32 Oregon female athletes seek to hold the school responsible for the NIL collective failing to treat male and female athletes equally. Watch this one closely.

Disgusting. Time for a complete overhaul.

Seven schools owe fired coaches a buyout of $122 million (excluding mitigation), surpassing what's believed to be the record set in 2021 of $94M. Fisher: $76M Allen: $20M Holgorsen: $15M Babers: $4M* Arnett: $4M Avalos: $3M Gonzalez: $400K *estimate as Syracuse is private

Maybe the Board realized the rules are the rules and a fight to assuage the public's wistful opinion of right and wrong is a waste of time? METTLEN: JMU's President Has A Lot Of Explaining To Do dnronline.com/sports/college…
