The Azores have designated 30% of its sea, covering 287,000 km², as marine protected areas. This decision enhances global ocean conservation, making the archipelago the largest Marine Protected Area in 🇪🇺 and a model for the EU’s goal of protecting 30% of marine areas by 2030.

The more we heat up the atmosphere and the oceans, the more stunning rainfall extremes we will see. It’s physics. Climate scientists have warned of this for more than three decades.

This is probably the most astonishing rainfall data I’ve ever had my hands on. Turis, Valencia, Spain, found itself in the absolute worst of last week’s extreme rain event. The town ended up with a mind-boggling 771.8 mm (30.4 inches) of rainfall over the course of 24 hours.
