In the past people were just going on quests
Claiming contamination and being believed is far from just a Chinese phenom. Multiple athletes including male Jamaican sprinters said contamination was behind positive tests for banned clenbuterol at Beijing 2008. They were believed and those positives stayed secret.
China had 11 swimmers at Paris 2024 among 23 who tested positive for banned trimetazidine in 2021, which WADA accepted as contamination. Among the 11: Zhang Yufei won 6 (six) medals in Paris; Yang Junxuan (won 4); Qin Haiyang (2 medals, 1 gold); Yu Yiting (2) and Wang Shun (1).

2 February 1943 | A transport of 1,001 Jews deported from the #Theresienstadt ghetto arrived at #Auschwitz. After selection made by SS doctors, 155 men & 63 women were registered in the camp. The remaining 783 people were murdered in gas chambers.
