A tight pressure gradient on the western flank of this active low is moving into the Western Isles. South Uist Range is now recording northerly wind gusts up to 58mph, giving a bitterly cold feel with significant wind chill.
Cold this afternoon with an active trough of low pressure pushing east with clusters of heavy, in places thundery, showery rain with some hail, and snow over the mountains. Later wintry down to 300-400m in the north. Raw northerly gales developing down the west coast and Isles.
