If there were more food and fewer people, this would be a perfect party.

This is a dark, dark day for people around the globe. The world’s largest economy and most powerful military will be led by a dangerous, destructive demagogue.

Not even the mind-boggling and ridiculous electoral college can be blamed this time. America needs to take a deep look at itself. Misogyny and racism at the heart of this result. I feel truly sorry for so many Americans now at further risk just for wanting to live.

Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.

This. And the number of artists I’ve found and then followed from their support act days. Sad for music fans and for smaller artists to breakthrough.

Gig ticket prices have completely priced me out of seeing artists that I’m a casual fan of, which is a shame because seeing an artist live is one of the best ways to really get into their music

The Venn diagram of people saying “don’t have kids if you can’t afford them” and “the younger generation are selfish for not having kids” is a circle

This post is unavailable.

So out of touch that they don’t realise that time was when one salary could maintain a family household. People aren’t having (as many) children because wage stagnation and the decline of quality of life in this country have made it unaffordable.

This! And also expectations, many of the “must reads” are so hyped that it’s easy to feel disappointed or that reading isn’t for you.

I think the problem some people have when it comes to books is thinking they don’t like to read because they are only trying books that other people have told them are good. The key to reading is looking around and discovering what you truly enjoy.

This is a common view among Conservative MPs & commentators. And of course it is right in the sense that the generally dire state of public finances was known before hand. But it is a view based on a misunderstanding about what is knowable from inside & outside the Treasury. 1/3

The dire state of the public finances cannot have come as any great surprise to her; like an open book, it’s been there for all to see for a long time now. My column telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/…

A colleague based in Paris has been updating us on the insanity. She won’t be going into the office because of the red-zone and metro issues. We’re also waiting for hell to rain down when the world wakes up and realises the inaccessibility of the metro for the Paralympics 🤷‍♀️

I think non-French and non-French-speaking readers should be told about how utterly insane things are now in and around Paris because of the Olympics are. The opening ceremony is one week away and they've already barred any access to the Seine! 🧵⤵️ •1/19
