WOOHOO! It's the 300th episode of the @fuse_kate podcast and who is our super special guest? None other than the Stinky Cheese Man himself @Jon_Scieszka! We're doing a deep dive into three seriously bizarre Grimm fairy tales. Join us for a goofball time: afuse8production.slj.com/2024/01/15/fus…

"Find your favorite parts. They're the ones that make you scream." We celebrate our 300th episode with special guest star Jon Scieszka. What better way to celebrate? afuse8production.slj.com/2024/01/15/fus…

Happy new year! Today on the podcast we consider a winter title. Citizen scientist or man who mucks with the scientific record? Only you can judge when you listen to our latest episode on the Caldecott Award winning title Snowflake Bentley.

For today, a 1950's highlight from the giant pile of old PBs. I had always wanted a copy of Dare Wright’s infamous The Lonely Doll (1957), and, voila, here it is! The doll and the story do indeed have a constant low-grade hum of creepiness, and the spanking scene is disturbing.

"Three dudes tell you how babies are made in 1968." Do you like papercuts? Do you like ancient children's sex-ed nonfiction for kids? Than have we got a book today for you! afuse8production.slj.com/2023/09/11/fus…

"The critics don't know. The creators don't know. The kids get to see a giant explosion!" On @fuse_kate we debate the true meaning of this 1968 Caldecott Award winner by the Emberleys. afuse8production.slj.com/2023/09/04/fus…

Adding to my list! ✔️ Love the Fuse 8 n' Kate podcast and was excited to hear the episode about a weird book my cousins and I got as kids--The Rainbow Goblins! 🤩Most gorgeous art and most disturbing story. 🤔 I still own it. The roots! The drowning! The bottoms! Nailed it.

Doing a Ukrainian folktale on @fuse_kate seemed more than appropriate this morning. Admittedly I do go off in my post on it about why I suspect it never won a Caldecott anything. We're talking The Mitten by @byjanbrett and how it holds up so well: afuse8production.slj.com/2023/02/20/fus…

Last year I tried describing a few picture books to an AI art generator to see what it could come up with. This was Strega Nona. Looks like the technology has come a long way since then.

Today we slow things down a notch on @fuse_kate to consider Caldecott Award winner Allen Say's GRANDFATHER'S JOURNEY. How has it aged since publication? Anything worth a reconsideration? We discuss: afuse8production.slj.com/2022/07/11/fus…

It's summertime! What picture book best describes the sensation of attempting to escape mosquitoes at every turn? At @fuse_kate we read a Vera B. Williams title with a queer subtext and a whole boatload (canoeload?) of bitey insects: afuse8production.slj.com/2022/08/01/fus…

A remarkably well-written and sourced article on the current state of LGBTQ+ picture books. And look at the attention they spend on UNCLE BOBBY'S WEDDING! We couldn't be more proud.
