Back from @ArnosValeCem war graves tour with @frothelhorse knocking it out of the park once more. Fascinating stories, great research and an empathy for the military buried there. Highly recommended

Pleased to attend the blue plaque ceremony in StGeorge Bristol at former home of Fred Room, gallant VC recipient. Lots of research into Fred’s life by ⁦@jbanningww1⁩ & Clive Burlton - a fascinating story worthy of celebrating. @⁦BristolCivicSoc⁩ ⁦@frothelhorse

Good news!

National Trust Council election results have been announced. Record turnout. The five candidates recommended by the elected Council’s Nominations Committee were voted in by our members. Thank you for voting. It’s important. The National Trust is for everyone, for ever.

A very kind account of my tour at @arnosvalecem today. Especial thanks to @jbanningww1 for his support, also thanks to fellow guides and other colleagues who came along, as well as all the other enthiastic attendees!

A wonderful afternoon at ⁦@ArnosValeCem⁩ in Bristol with ⁦@frothelhorse⁩ on his War Graves tour. Nice to see some familiar faces. Charles, regaled us all with story after story, many utterly tragic as we walked around the cemetery. Brilliant history.

Part 2

9/ Ralph and I got out of the coach close to Pommern Castle and I showed him as best as I could the site where William’s body had been exhumed from. He placed a poppy cross by the fence overlooking the field where his grandfather had been killed and had some time for reflection.

A beautiful and moving thread for 11 November

1/ A thread on #Remembrance for #ArmisticeDay which I think you may like. On my last group tour one of the passengers was a lovely gentleman called Ralph whose grandfather, Private William Ernest Tandy, 2/1st Ox & Bucks Light Infantry had been killed during Third Ypres.

A must-read thread for anyone interested in the history of Bristol and the First World War…..

1/ A thread on the fabulous postwar link between Bristol and Bethune, the British League of Help, building of new housing, a big visit for the unveiling & then a sad end to this tale of Bristolian generosity. Honestly, you don’t have to be from #Bristol to find it interesting!
