In today’s show - Manchester Science, on @ALLFM at 13:00, there is more Manchester than Science. @frankpleszak talks about his book - Two Years in a Gulag. His father’s WW2 journey from USSR's Kolyma gold mine to Salford. Listen again at astrotalkuk.org/manchesterscie…. Short clip

Ace Mill Oldham formerly Gorse Mill No.2 in 1918 was part of Oldham Aircraft factory building HP O/400 heavy bombers for the American Air Force. WW1 ended before any were delivered but it’s thought at least 1 lew from the adjoining airfield where Avro built their factory in 1939.

Today is the 82nd anniversary of the fatal bombing of New Mills and Hayfield in Derbyshire after which the Ju88 bombers were shot down by the famous Battle of Britain 303 Polish Squadron. tinyurl.com/2p9cxkn2 @PLinManchester @britishpoles @ipngovpl_eng @NWBylines

From the ‘Battle of Britain’ film Hispano HA-1112-M1L Buchon made to look like an RAF Hurricane with a Polish chequerboard & an RAF code that didn’t exist. So it’s a Spanish aircraft made to look like a German fighter painted as a British fighter operated by a Polish squadron.

An honour to give a talk on the history of Avro to the excellent @SolwayAviation . Heartwarming to see that the last Blackburn Beverley has been saved by them and slowly making it’s way over from Fort Paull where I’d seen it almost complete last year. @clark_aviation
