The Media Specialists at our middle school have a "book tasting" at the beginning of the year, complete with dining tables & they wear chef hats. I would like to implement something similar at the elementary. I think the kids would love it! #CF20CultureofLiteracy @UvondaMitchell

We began using MAP Assessment this year. We did one in the fall, winter & were supposed to be doing one this week! It's tied directly into interventions for each student thru Pathblazer & teachers can see exactly where each is lacking. @UvondaMitchell #CF20QualityAssessments
I like the read aloud feature on sites like Britannica. My students like to use GetEpic which has texts with the read aloud feature and videos to go along with the books they read. Also, they can browse by topics that interest them! #CF20DigitalResources @UvondaMitchell
I have a Leveled Literacy Intervention group everyday and one student breaks apart unknown words letter by letter a lot of times. I help him chunk the words into smaller parts that he might recognize or find familiar letter patterns which helps him. #CF20Phonics @UvondaMitchell
Some of my students have learning disabilities in reading so it's hard for them. I was interested to learn that 50-75% of all school books are made up of Dolch sight words. If I can help teach these that's half the battle! Gonna try BINGO! #CF20VocabularyIdeas @UvondaMitchell

I'm drawn to the Find it/Figure it Out strategy for reading info texts. I feel upcoming generations don't dig deep or look beyond the text. This could fall under Schema or Socio-Cultural Theories as they pull from prior knowledge & culture. #CF20MakingMeaning @UvondaMitchell
Unfoldment Theory: A child's natural curiosity & interests guide their learning. A preschool class w/ various centers (reading, home living, art) & manipulatives (sensory table, blocks) helps children learn through play. #CF20TheoryInAction @UvondaMitchell
You can kill two birds with one stone & embed sci/social studies concepts into literacy curriculum. Students are exposed to important vocab they will need in the future all while practicing ELA strategies. #CF20LiteracyInsights @UvondaMitchell
