That time everyone noticed Trump signed the wrong thing 😂

A thread about what could also explain the Latino vote last night.

Last night an immigrant voter told me it was hard to distinguish between democrats and republicans on immigration. As @SergioMarBel & I have been reporting, Dems ran a campaign that veered to the right on immigration, at times indistinguishable from some of Trump’s 1st presidency

Living in one of the biggest cities in the world can often be hard. But one thing is easy. If you've got a few minutes, listen to this piece about how easy it is to get a driver's license in Mexico City: npr.org/2024/09/23/nx-…

Constitutional amendment has been signed by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. The amendment completely remakes Mexico’s judiciary.

On Oct. 1, Claudia Sheinbaum will become Mexico’s first woman president in republic’s more than 200 years of history. This is a stunning picture shared by the presidency of the president-elect at a military college ceremony.

La paradoja de defender la democracia peleando contra la mayoría. Últimamente lo único que veo sobre la reforma es todo esperanza o todo catástrofe. Que refrescante escuchar un panorama menos polarizado con @eyderp desde NPR.

In Mexico, the judiciary and its allies are arguing that to save democracy, Congress should ignore the will of the majority and scrap a reform that would totally remake the country's federal judiciary. We explore this apparent contradiction: npr.org/2024/09/04/nx-…

In a diplomatic note, the U.S. says it has "utmost respect for Mexico's sovereignty," and then it goes on to repeat the critique of a proposed judicial reform that Mexican President Lopez Obrador has called an "imprudent" interference.

Siempre trabajamos con el máximo respeto a la soberanía de México, tal y como lo expresamos en la nota diplomática que enviamos el pasado 23 de agosto.

This is such an old world way of defining latinidad — jus sanguinis. Especially considering that the U.S. is the second largest Spanish speaking country in the world… and has for decades help defined latinidad — think the current regional Mexican wave or NY salsa…

For Americans, Latino is an ethnicity; for Latin Americans, Latino is our culture. That's the best way I can explain it. Which is why Taylor-Joy is more Latina to us than say J-Lo? You can talk to Taylor-Joy in Spanish about intrinsically Latin American things. J-Lo? Not at all.

I am rarely amused by front pages of newspapers. But props to Reforma, yesterday for a bit of humor. Breaking a world record, they report, Armand Duplantis could also “jump over Trump’s wall.” And terrific infographic goes with it.

A terrific recap of what we think we know about how one of Mexico’s most legendary drug lords was captured by U.S. authorities.

The Detention of El Mayo - A Thread The arrest in the US of Mayo Zambada, such a huge figure in the Mexican narco world, was a truly seismic event. Two explanations emerged: 1) La Traición, or treachery: The son of El Chapo betrayed Mayo. 2) El Pacto: Mayo made a deal. 1/
