Kaki lima is an example of climate-adapted urbanism in Malaysia. The five-foot walkways in front of shophouses is a public realm found in many heritage towns, designed to shelter pedestrians from the tropical sun & rain. It also serves various social and economic functions (1/n).

Still don’t get why bike-lanes need to be separated, with real protected bike infrastructure, and why paint isn’t real infrastructure? “Paint doesn’t protect.”Watch this powerful before-&-after video of Lansdowne Street in #Melbourne via MelbourneWay.

12 lanes across a Federal highway interchange. Yet still full of slow moving traffic. Somehow an MP thinks adding 4 maybe 6 more elevated lanes will change anything.

How a man’s world systematically neglects women. - When half the global population is treated as an afterthought, research is less accurate, policy is less effective, and welfare is diminished. (The list of evidence presented is damning, to say the least). eco-business.com/opinion/how-a-…

A long overdue Part 2 of the making of Grey Scale. "The days extended into months, and months into a year, I began to realize that this story needed time to unfold the facets of my aunt’s life. Such stories tend to tell itself, and it cannot be rushed." evelynteh.com/blog/2022/9/22…

Creating the documentary was a long journey, as is sharing this post. After a year in the drafts, I'm pleased to express gratitude to those who made @greyscaledocmy possible.

A waste audit is needed before jumping into a conclusion. It will help to identify whether these plastics originated from Malaysia or the "supposedly recycled" plastic wastes shipped from the global north.

1. Malaysia is among the top 10 countries contributing significant amounts of plastic waste to the ocean, alongside the Philippines in the Southeast Asian region. Based on a survey conducted by UK energy service provider Utility Bidder, Malaysia is the fifth in this list.

The Penang Fisherfolk’s Association submitted five demands during the recent State Elections & this includes stopping reclamation projects like this one in Penang. Yet the voices of local communities & NGOs are continously being neglected to pursue this development interest.

1. Preliminary works will begin today to create Silicon Island off the southern coast of Penang Island. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow says the state has obtained all necessary approvals from relevant agencies, including the Penang Department of Environment on July 21.
