@erre_DiStefano and I have updated our paper, "The Inclusive Synthetic Control Method." The new version, now incorporating the penalized SCM in our application, is available here: arxiv.org/abs/2403.17624.

If a treatment is non-random, continuous, and exhibits heterogeneous effects even at identical treatment doses, no existing estimator can provide an unbiased estimate of the dose-response function (DRF). We fill this gap with the Clustered DRF estimator: twtr.to/ctvdC

I'm happy to share that my paper with @FedeAbides , @erre_DiStefano, and @SilviaTiezzi has been accepted in Labour Economics. We find that promptly imposing a strict lockdown, as initially planned, would have saved many lives in the Bergamo province. authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S09…

@erre_DiStefano and I have updated our paper the "inclusive Synthetic Control Method" (arxiv.org/abs/2403.17624). Our iSCM allows to include units affected directly or in indirectly by the treatment in the donor pool and it works with most SC-type estimators. #EconTwitter

Many treatments in social sciences and economics do not lend themselves to binary categorizations but rather vary in intensity across a continuous spectrum. How, then, can we accurately estimate their causal effects? Here’s my one-page reflection on the matter.

Except for studies analyzing place-based policies or networks, interactions among units have usually been relegated to a secondary role in policy evaluation studies. Is this approach justified? Here's my one-page reflection on the matter.

The paper ‘What kind of region reaps the benefits of a currency union?’ has just been published in @JRS83202671 In this study, @Roberta74816222, Guido Pellegrini and I estimate the (heterogeneous) economic impact of joining a currency union at the regional level.

New wp on the consequences of a missed lockdown around the province of Bergamo sdu.dk/-/media/files/…. Joint work with @Roberta74816222, @GioMellace and @SilviaTiezzi #COVID19 #lockdown #NPI #SyntheticControlMethod

There is no doubt that strict lockdown measures were effective in reducing the spread of the pandemic. We show that imposing a "Red Zone" in three municipalities in the Bergamo Province, could have reduced the number of excess deaths by up to two thirds. sdu.dk/-/media/files/…
