Hmmm. "22-year-old Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke". Plaid Cymru's baroness is **checks notes** 28 years old. @CarmenRiaSmith, looking at you...

NEW ZEALAND: POWERFUL HAKA AGAINST BILL On 14 November, 22-year-old Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, New Zealand’s youngest member of Parliament, led a protest on the floor using the indigenous Maori people’s Haka, a ceremonial dance and chant, against a proposed bill that seeks to…

Good for the Maoris! What would the Welsh equivalent be?

Beautiful photos... ... and a chance to wonder what Britain would be like if Prince Arthur hadn't died young. We would have had a new King Arthur. We wouldn't have had King Henry VIII, or his efforts to have a son, or all of the fallout from that... A VERY different history.

On this day in 1501 Prince Arthur married Catherine of Aragon at St Paul’s Cathedral in London (November 14th). The stained glass fragments of a rose and a pomegranate at St Jerome’s, Llangwm Uchaf are almost definitely a reference to their union. #thread

Have to say, I'm seeing the same thing. Lots more beautiful photos. Books. As well as really interesting world news.

I’ve lost about 200 followers in the last week or so. I couldn’t care less about that, as it has genuinely transformed my timeline. It’s gone from struggling to find anything joyful, to me just scrolling through this morning and liking post after post. So thanks for leaving.

Just learned how to search for old posts within a specified time period. Looking back at some of mine. I still remember this clearly. History being made.

Crowds at Sanlitun watching China's 1st spacewalk on big screens. This is a day to remember!

Probably not. It will be interesting to see whether Chinese-made productions start making more of an impact in western markets, though. And, who know, perhaps one day, collaborations between the Chinese, Indian &/or Nigerian industries... That would be something!

As the local film industry surges in popularity, do you think Hollywood films will reclaim their former glory in China? radii.co/article/can-ho…

South Korea sees opportunities in the BRICS. There are some people who still insist the BRICS is a failure - it's an ideological position, verging on religious, but it's not fact-based. asiatimes.com/2024/10/south-…

There's a lot of denial about this, but Russia's hypersonic missile technologies far outstrip US capabilities. Now China, as well. asiatimes.com/2024/11/chinas…

A couple of weeks old now, but still a good introduction to the now-ended presidential election in Somaliland while we wait for the results. Whoever wins will still support independence. The alliance between Somaliland & Ethiopia will continue; tensions with Mogadishu & Egypt…

Awkward. TMSC became one of the world's most important chip manufacturers in... Taiwan. With 100% Chinese-speaking staff & management. Since Pelosi stirred up tensions with Beijing, the US has pressured TMSC to set up factories in America, which they've done. Turns out you…

TSMC American employees in the state of Arizona are suing the company, claiming the tech giant has employment practices that discriminate against people who cannot speak Mandarin Chinese. So why don't American employees learn Mandarin Chinese?🤔

There's been a lot of discussion lately about the scientific reports identifying 2050 as the 'tipping point' at which the AMOC current may shut down. This is a really important thread clarifying what that date actually represents.

It's time for another AMOC Collapse thread! This includes some clarifications on the TIMING of a potential tipping vs. collapse and their *impacts*, based on a conversation I've had with a co-author of the recent pre-print "Probability Estimates of a 21st Century AMOC Collapse"

According to research I once read somewhere, women talk about emotions whereas male conversation is about exchanging facts. So when we're in a situation where we don't know anything about what's going on, we'll take any scrap of knowledge we can get and work the heck out of it.

Here's a story about men and sports. Years ago, I was invited to a 21st at a bar where the plan was to watch a big title fight. I *think* it was an Amir Khan fight I knew fuck all about boxing so I asked my Dad and he said "Ah well, the thing about Khan is, he has no chin".
