(1/4) For decades, voter suppression tactics and reproductive freedom restrictions have served as well-documented strategies to maintain white political power. The parallels between the attacks on these rights extend far beyond recent legislative efforts, legal restrictions, and

a huge win for democracy! congratulations and thank you to @NAACP_LDF and @RossDeuel for this victory! 👏👏👏

“This decision is a crucial win against the continued onslaught of attacks on voting rights. Alabama attempted to rewrite federal law by saying race could not be considered in the redistricting process even when necessary to remedy racial discrimination." - LDF's @RossDeuel

The reality is, eliminating race-conscious admissions would entrench preferences for white students that already exist in college admissions and decimate the number of students of color at Harvard. Read @NAACP_LDF’s brief, hot off the press. #DefendDiversity

25 Harvard student & alumni orgs represented by LDF have filed a brief in the US Supreme Court in SFFA v Harvard. It asks the Court to uphold 40+ years of precedent holding that it's legally permissible to consider race as one of many factors in admissions.naacpldf.org/press-release/…

I’m reading the Buffalo murderer’s manifesto. Let there be no talk of “mental illness.” This document is very cogent, articulate fascist hate, directly linked to fairly mainstream far right ideas.

Heartbroken for the families and communities of those murdered in Buffalo today. This was an act of violent hatred. And it was fueled by a media and tech environment that enables white supremacist radicalization.

🧵 As everyone talks about abortion this week, we thought it might be helpful to review some best practices with regards to language from the repro field & share some other definitions that might be useful. 1/x Thread.

Here’s the thing folks. We’re in dark times. There’s no way out but through. I have no easy answers for what comes next. Invest in your people and your community. Create pathways of support and resistance. And understand we’re building toward generational repair

Reminder: When Alito claims that the rt to abortion is not "deeply rooted history or tradition" because "28 out of 37 states" banned it throughout pregnancy when the 14A was ratified, he is either being ignorant or willfully deceitful. His own appendix gives him away! A thread:

Republicans said this was the plan all along.

It was Mississippi that asked Court to overturn Roe. State has highest Black population but hasn’t elected Black candidate statewide since Reconstruction. Same state legislatures restricting the vote are passing abortion bans. Protect voting rights & you protect all other rights.

Alito's draft opinion explicitly criticizes Lawrence v. Texas (legalizing sodomy) and Obergefell v. Hodges (legalizing same-sex marriage). He says that, like abortion, these decisions protect phony rights that are not "deeply rooted in history." politico.com/f/?id=00000180…

Just your weekly reminder that this won't end with abortion.... protections for same-sex marriage, contraception, and individual autonomy that are not explicit in the Constitution are up for grabs, too.

You can’t understand the court overturning Roe without understanding the role racism has played in the rise of the religious right and no reporter should report on this without talking about what may come next: Rulings against civil rights.
