We are celebrating Labor Day by announcing that a supermajority of our over-600 person union signed a pledge of support for a strike. We have scheduled a strike authorization vote 🗳️ 🪧
😭
I hate that @ellawinthrop is leaving us, but I'm so glad I got to work with her on her last piece for @nytimesbusiness She's the best, most collaborative, most creative visual journalist I've ever worked with. A thread with a few of my favorite Ben-and-Ella collabs:
Bittersweet that my last @nytimesbusiness piece is with the great @bencasselman, in which we ask: where are there more jobs than 4 years ago? And where are there fewer? nytimes.com/interactive/20…
In Manhattan real estate, cash is king, with all-cash buyers plucking up 64 percent of the homes that sold in April. @ellawinthrop and I wanted to know who the cash buyers are, what they're buying and how they're doing it. nytimes.com/2024/07/06/ups…
This amazing @rondakaysen + @ellawinthrop piece is about NYC real estate, which is idiosyncratic, but captures so many broader trends: - intergenerational wealth transfer - changed math of cash v. mortgage - lock-out for buyers lacking cash nytimes.com/2024/07/06/ups…
We have had enough and we are letting management know: Stop the intimidation.
Today our members are packing @nytimes management’s inboxes to let them know we have had enough of their firing and forcing out our members using unjust Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs)
So far in 2024 @nytimes management has increased its discipline of our members by 200% compared to 2022 and 2023 and is on track to triple the number of members put on PIPs and/or fired this year
Two-thirds of the people fired from our unit have been from underrepresented groups: people of color, women, and/or people with disabilities. And we’ve seen members on visas have their lives thrown into chaos when their unfair firing puts their immigration status at risk
Proud to stand with my @NYTimesGuild colleagues today in reminding New York Times executives that we haven't forgotten their disappointing decision to gut the paper's influential and historic sports desk.
The return-to-office wars are over. Remote work has settled into a new normal in which a large share of college-educated people get to work from home some or all of the time -- and few others get the same luxury. nytimes.com/interactive/20…
Lots more in today's story, which uses data from the Current Population Survey's invaluable new Telework supplement. Shoutout to the dream team of @emmabgo, our expert in all things remote work, and @ellawinthrop, the best damn graphics wizard in the biz. nytimes.com/interactive/20…
Happy birthday to our tech workers! Two years after they won their election @NYTGuildTech members still don’t have a contract. The company must stop delaying and bargain in good faith.
STRIKE AUTHORIZATION: 96% of @law360union has voted to authorize a strike. Read our release here.... nyguild.org/post/strike-au…
Today is the day! We are outside D.C. @washingtonpost HQ fighting for a fair contract. Reminder: don’t engage with Post content today!
Our 24-hour strike has begun. For the first time in 50 years, @washingtonpost workers are walking off the job because our company is refusing to bargain in good faith and breaking the law.
Three hours until Washington Post workers start our 24-hour unfair labor practice strike at midnight Dec. 7. Don’t cross the picket line and don’t read @washingtonpost
This week, in response to my reporting with @ellawinthrop, legislators in the US Senate and the House introduced bills that could stop Wall Street from buying single family homes. nytimes.com/2023/12/06/rea…
brilliant investigative piece on collusion in the chicken industry by brilliant friend @hclaire_brown (also A+ headline/visuals amalgam: "The Chicken Tycoons vs. the Antitrust Hawks") nytimes.com/2023/11/29/mag…
