When I was growing up, my mom liked to say "We don’t make New Year's resolutions in this house; we make determinations. We are a determined household." Here is what I learned from watching my mother summon the strength necessary to keep going: saeedjones.substack.com/p/we-are-a-det…

There’s actually some really good books on how capitalism’s relentless commodification of everything impacted art development: Art History as Social Praxis by David Craven & Art and Value by Dave Beech, both for 50% off at @haymarketbooks

Got a note from a teacher saying his kids "were commenting on the picture of how to dress for weather that CPS put out and said “so are they going to pay for all of that?” @ChiPubSchools ???

Here is a guide to dressing for cold weather. CPS is monitoring the polar vortex expected Jan. 30 and will send out notification of any school cancellation on Tuesday afternoon/evening.

A teacher asked me today, “Do students read anymore?” I’m so tired of that question. They’re reading more than ever. We all are. Really, this one generation just up and abandoned reading? They’re not reading your textbook? Right, because we all are dying to read a textbook.

as someone currently grappling with a chronic illness diagnosis (RA) I’m excited to read this and learn more.

Happy mother’s day to all the mothers out there, especially my own, the original Ms. Krchnavy. I’m so grateful for all the love, humor, and selflessness moms and other mother figures put out there every day.

As @nhannahjones demonstrates over and over, segregated schools are no accident. “[S]chools would be more diverse if all students attended the schools in their neighborhood zones instead of choosing to enroll in other public schools or charter schools.” wnyc.org/story/report-s…
