In case anyone's forgotten: In 2020-21 the Department of Health and Social Care bought PPE valued at £2.6 BILLION POUNDS which "is not suitable for use within the health and social care sector."

That £5BN a year is the total VAT they pay, not the amount they paid in the last year on capital buildings so it's a useless benchmark for capital goods claims. I note that the poster has been unable to provide a source for their figure.

It could be right as the sector pays 5 billion per year in VAT, so 50 billion going back 10 years. It does however distort the fact that a lot of modest schools do not have large capital expenditures to reclaim VAT on so majority of that money will go to the most elite schools.

Lee, you've spotted that this thread is disingenuous sleight of hand, yes? Post 3/13: There's £830M for schools, let's just take that away for no reason and hope no one's paying attention and then.. Post 13/13:.. oh look, there's no money left for schools.

Word of the Day: Principle (n.) A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behaviour or for a chain of reasoning.

Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on your victory. The UK has no greater friend than the US, with the special relationship being cherished on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 80 years. We look forward to working with you and @JDVance in the years ahead.

Private schools to take legal action over VAT plans. In irony almost too delicious for words, if they lose then they'll be able to reclaim the VAT on their legal costs, but if they win, they won't. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Have those clamouring for SEN pupils' private school fees to remain exempt considered that it would create a disincentive to schools to accommodate SEN pupils, since it would reduce their input VAT recovery? I'm guessing "no."

Quite rightly, charities are free to determine how they meet their charitable objectives. If the government were to prescribe how they operate, they might as well nationalise 'em and do it themselves. Although as it happens, bursaries is a way many of them do it.

There's a story today of a private school spinning closure as due to changes to VAT on school fees. Journalists are running it on that premise with additional reporting on the VAT change. But 10 minutes research shows the reality and sinks the story. Here we go...

Don't be sad. You can create your own live Oasis experience at home. Simply stand 2 immobile action figurines at the end of your garden, drink some warm beer, play any literally Slade single at 33rpm, and set fire to £150.
