You don't have to be a "statistician" on paper to be a good #statistics lecturer: you may have come from an #epidemiology, operations research, biochemistry or other background. Our senior statistician vacancy closes on Friday, shortlisting soon. phc.ox.ac.uk/about/work-wit…

FAO #Stata users: lovely upgrade to Stata's help system can now be installed, thanks to Chen & Lian, Stata Journal 24:161-168. DOI: 10.1177/1536867X241233676 I don't know what it says about Stata that I'm this happy about an upgrade to the help system.

Early bird discount expires end of July, so now is a good time for a reminder. Rare opportunity to get this teaching in-person in the UK.

Oxford, 12th September: Justin Clark, from @BondUniversity the Two-Week Systematic Review team, teaching #systematicreview automation tools. Early bird discount available oxforduniversitystores.co.uk/short-courses/… @CebmOxford

Students (and staff) in Oxford last week for the Essential Medical Statistics (conted.ox.ac.uk/courses/essent…) course. This week, studying remotely. Our postgraduate programme (@OxEBHC ) blends face-to-face learning in Oxford with distance learning online. #medicalstatistics

My colleague Jason Oke points out that calculating excess mortality is harder than it looks.

We need to rethink estimates of excess mortality that are based on five-year averages. trusttheevidence.substack.com/p/recent-non-c…

Publishing in Colorectal Disease has had unforeseen consequences for the preview image on my tweet.

"Propensity scores in surgery: Don't believe the hype" (due to wordcount, we predominantly address #propensityscore matching) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/co… @ColorectalDis @oke_jason

Wow - thanks Jim et al. for the encouraging words about our programme.

Phenomenal program. One of the best experiences of my career. Great people @JMOM85 @ebhcmedstats were integral to my learning of medical statistics. I unequivocally recommend EBHC programs.

We are now accepting early applications for a number of 2023 #shortcourses in #healthsciences, many of which now offer both an online & f2f option. View these courses, available for professional development & academic credit to improve your #EBHC skills: bit.ly/2W26rJZ

Anyone need a teaching example for the difference between #statisticalsignificance and clinical significance? Here, body temperature is higher (p<0.001) in men than women, by 0.032 degrees Celsius.

Despite the pandemic, students from all over the world have been coming to Oxford for @OxEBHC courses. These pins are just the students on our #medicalstatistics courses, so far this academic year, not including online courses.

Glad to see this. We agree - that's why our @OxEBHC part-time MSc courses have distinct modules for Meta-Analysis and Systematic Reviews. (Not to mention the Complex Reviews module, &c.)

It is a common misconception that meta-analysis and systematic reviews are the same and the terms are often used interchangeably. While there is substantial overlap between the two they are not the same thing. Have a read of @MetaEvidence's explanation: buff.ly/3k4pH0H

Staff and students on the Essential Medical Statistics course in Oxford this week. (Some places for part-time study on our #ebm and #medicalstatistics MSc programmes still available - I don't know for how much longer: conted.ox.ac.uk/about/msc-in-e…) Thanks @patrickfahr for the photo!
