This is extraordinary news. Rachel Wardell awarded an OBE for services at several councils including Surrey. SCC met only 26% of EHCP within the statutory deadline. Many waiting much longer and failing children. Hardly a success yet still awarded an OBE. news.surreycc.gov.uk/2024/06/14/two…

Fifteen years. Five prime ministers, seven chancellors, eight foreign secretaries, twelve culture secretaries and sixteen housing ministers. A thread, for #RantyTuesday.

The best national service anyone can do is to vote the Tories out on 4 July.

A reminder that children's education, health and care service failings don't just damage their futures, they can have lethal consequences: Serious and systemic CAMHS failures contribute to the death of 17-year-old with #autism and #ADHD doughtystreet.co.uk/news/serious-a…

My child had a stroke and continues to recover, ten years on. A childhood strokes registry is needed urgently. Children have strokes too.

Two mothers whose sons had a stroke and were told they could die are backing calls for the introduction of a childhood strokes registry in the UK. Austin was just 12 minutes old, while Bayley was aged two when they suffered strokes. bbc.com/news/articles/…

Surely that's forward to the 70s, after the existential havoc your party has unleashed over the last 14 years.

A year after leaving mainstream (and an isolation room), my child thrives in a specialist setting. He remains traumatised though and has only just started speaking about his experience. He still has nightmares about his old school. He's 10.

If a school destroys your loved one what do you do? Do you insist on attendance or save what is left of their soul? I’d like a politician to answer this dilemma.

Today's @guardian leader. Absolutely bang on, except that the rise to 25 for EHCPs was essential because, as it says lower down, disabled & neurodivergent become disabled & neurodivergent adults. Without early support needs can become far greater #SEND theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Headteachers are asking you for adequate funding to enable them to meet the needs of pupils with SEND. Any chance of delivering on that?

Madeleine, 8, was rejected by every school her council approached - because she has autism. She has now joined a growing number of children whose parents are instead given money to pay for educational activities outside of school. trib.al/potebxN

Another report to add to the decades of reports saying the same thing: kids labelled with SEND don't get access to their basic legal entitlements when it comes to education, health & social care. For the doubters, I thought I'd create a list. Please chip in below 👇

It’s still taking far too long for children to get EHCPs. We need radical reform of the SEND system, so it is as ambitious for children as they are for themselves.   childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/blog/new-stati…

When you see the headlines about Councils heading for insolvency and much of the blame being put on ‘SEND DEMAND’, remember that over £100,000,000 was spent by councils in a year, losing SENDist tribunals. Info courtesy of ⁦@SpcialNdsJungle
